Jane Norton First Quarter Fundraising: GOP Candidate Reports $816,000 Haul

Senate candidate Jane Norton's campaign is reporting an $816,000 first-quarter fundraising haul, the highest yet for the former Republican lieutenant governor.

Norton, who is backed by many national Republicans, has now raised $1.9 Million since entering the race in September.

Long considered the Republican front-runner, lost the party caucuses to little-known challenger Ken Buck on March 16. Buck, the Weld County District Attorney, won despite being drastically outspent in the weeks leading up to the caucuses.

At the end of the 4th quarter of 2009, Buck's campaign had raised $537,314, and reported just a $40,000 4th-quarter haul.

Buck, who has yet to report his 1st quarter fundraising totals, has also received the support from several independent conservative groups. Influential blogger Erick Erickson has also been a strong supporter of Buck.

Neither of Norton's potential Democratic opponents--incumbent Michael Bennet and Andrew Romanoff--have released their first quarter numbers yet. Bennet, who has been raising money for over a year, is by far the fundraising front-runner with nearly 5 Million dollars in the bank at the end of 2009.
