Bristol Palin Appears In Anti-Teen Pregnancy Ad: 'Pause Before You Play'

Bristol Palin Ad

Bristol Palin, the oldest daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, appears with her 15-month old son, Tripp, in a new teen pregnancy prevention public service announcement for her partner group, the Candie's Foundation.

In the ad, she points out that her responsibilities as a teen-mother were made easier by the fact that she comes from a "famous family" that provides her with "support" and "opportunities," but that "it wouldn't be pretty" if her situation were different.

She encourages teens to "pause before you play."

On Wednesday morning, Bristol appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the public service announcement and specifically the meaning of the word "pause" in the ad.

"It could be pause and go get a condom or it could be pause and think about your life or it could even be pause and wait until marriage," said Palin, who had previously been a defender of the abstinence-only method of pregnancy prevention.

I'm not even close to being a Palin fan, but this isn't really hypocrisy on Bristol's part (in this commercial anyway) since it says that you should pause before you play. Her abstinence stance is flip-flopping. I don't think it's hypocrisy to say to other people that you should learn from someone else's mistakes. Having said that, Sarah Palin can no longer whine about the non-existent liberal media she and other right wingers have created in their heads to use to dismiss reality supposedly "attacking" her family when her most famous one is out there on her own putting herself in the spotlight. Also, Palin was on the cover of tabloid magazine Us Weekly with her own son, Trig, Bristol, and Tripp. She exploits her family to get sympathy. It's really disgusting

The ironic thing about this is all of Bristol's opportunities came from her getting pregnant. If she had "paused" and never became pregnant, no one would be paying her $100,000 to pose on their tabloid covers with her baby. No one would have selected her as their spokesperson for abstinence. Trip has become her paycheck. If it wasn't for Trip, she would be earning a lot less money in Wasilla.

She'd be living the high life with or without her son because Sarah Palin is bringing in the money as evidenced by the outrageous speaking fees

The whole family should star in a pro (retroactive) abortion spot.

I'm willing to bet a lotta dough that Willow gets knocked up at an age younger than Bristol was when she participated in intercourse without using her brain.

So if you are rich, play around all you want. Go on, your parents can afford it. It is great when you are rich, but Bristol wouldn't be caught dead playing around poor.

"Don't do what I did, even though I'm getting lots of money and am famous because of it."

That kind of message isn't very effective. Kinda like "abstinence only".

I think what she was trying to say: teens who do not come from a famous family with money cannot afford a child, therefore abortion could be your option. What I am really trying to say is, she doesn't nor do the people who produced this ad know what they are trying to say, other than we want to show you off like other shows are displaying your mother, and they don't have a clue. I guess Willow will talk about bullying next, since the dea.th of the MA teen.

Sarah and Todd allowed her daughter to fool around in their own home(s).

I think the message should be to parents...not to kids...to teach their kids consequences of their actions and that they will provide support in PREVENTION as well as support if their kid gets preggo.

Parents needs to educate their horny kids that they must use birth control and that parents will provide it.

'nuff said.

Pathetic. The outcome of her "play" was a beautiful baby boy. Will she play this video for her son when he is old enough to understand its implications? I can comprehend the message she is trying to send to other teenage girls, but including her son in it is just plain wrong. Children should never be made to feel as though they were the outcome of a mistake. If anything, this ad was a mistake.

Because rich people are smart and sophisticated. Poor people are not. But boy, those were the whitest walls I have ever seen near a baby.

Because:
1) Teenage moms look a lot older than they realy are, and
2) She is a hillbilly.

AND HOW MUCH MONEY DID SHE GET FOR THIS? AND PUTTING THE BABY IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA - LOW LOW LOW.
03:04 PM on 04/08/2010
Why can't she make up her mind about which form of birth control is best? First she used none. Then she said abstinence only. Now it's anything goes as long as it's used. Every time she's on her own, she makes sense. When mommy enters the picture, it's all abstinence-only.

'Famous' family? Ha you forgot the "in"
02:41 PM on 04/08/2010
I think its fine to deal with issues of teen pregnancy. Bristol at least gives lip service to using condoms, but for her to be an advocate for "abstinence only" is the lamest form of hypocrisy.

So if someone used to do drugs, even if they're rehabilitated, they have no business sending anti-drug messages?
04:49 PM on 04/08/2010
Yeah, she used to be pregnant but now she isn't. She recovered.

Apples and oranges here.
