The latest Kyrgyzstan news is that conflict intensifies in this Asian nation, causing many to wonder details about Kyrgyzstan and see Kyrgyzstan on a map.

A violent uprising against the Kyrgyzstan government by opposition forces seems to have succeeded in gaining control of Kyrgyzstan. But at least 40 have died and many have been injured.

Kyrgyzstan is a small nation, slightly smaller than South Dakota for comparison. It is home to approximately 5.4 million people, per the CIA Factbook.

The Kyrgyz people are 75 percent Muslim and 20 percent Russian Orthodox, the Factbook adds. Kyrgyzstan was part of Russia in 1876, but the Kyrgyz staged a revolt in 1916 in which almost one-sixth of its population was killed.

A swarm of protesters attacked the main government building in Kyrgyz capital Bishkek today and anti-government activities were held nationwide in protest of repressive polices.
