Tiger Woods Nike Ad VIDEO: Commercial Marks Masters Comeback

Tiger Woods Nike Ad Video Commercial

First Posted: 06/07/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:05 PM ET

Nike has released a new Tiger Woods ad on the eve of the Masters, which will mark the dominant golfer's return to the sport following revelations of his sordid sex life. The commercial consists of black-and-white footage of Woods, accompanied a voice recording from his father, who died in 2006. Earl Woods can be heard saying:

Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. And did you learn anything.

Nike is one of the few major corporate sponsors to stand by Woods. While companies such as Gatorade, Proctor & Gamble, AT&T and Accenture have cut ties with Tiger, Nike and Electronic Arts have continued their endorsements.

The ad arrives on the same day that the National Enquirer reported that Woods slept with his neighbor's 22-year-old daughter. Woods' first round of golf in 2010 begins at 1:42 PM ET on Thursday.

Why don't we hear about Earl Woods other children? Is it a secret? Does tiger have a relationship with them?

There's something corrupt about using a dead man's voiceover for this type of gimmick.

Ridiculous. Father was speaking to Mother, not Baby Tiger.

It's a Nike ad: Buy shoes, because this guy can't keep it in his pants.

Tiger and Nike were so close to the finish line and they blew it with this. Tiger finally made it back to tournament golf, the one place where he really is a giant. By playing well, as he has, he has shown that whatever else his flaws, he is still a great golfer and his game is impervious to the distractions.

Had he just played and been humble, he'd be halfway home. Had Nike just laid low, his performance would have borne out their patience in waiting this out.

Instead, they had to try to cash in, and in such a tasteless and dishonest way. Earl loved Tiger and i imagine if he could speak from the grave he might tell Tiger that whatever he needs to do, including invoking his dad's voice, would be okay. But that doesn't make it right for Tiger and Nike to use him that way.

And let's face it... these words, "I am prone to question and discussion." Does Tiger want to answer questions and discuss this whole thing? Does he want to tell us what he was thinking and feeling and what he learned? Of course not. And that's fine. But if you want to keep that part of your life private, spare us the planned and scripted contrition in service of selling shoes.

Can't believe there was nobody at Nike or in Tiger's camp with the sense to say, "this is a bad idea."

I am enthralled. I have a feeling this is going to be one for the text books.

A lot of companies would have said: " Sure we bought this guy because he cuts across markets from 9 to 90, but that's just not happening now. We'll just have to target more select demographics and wait a little longer to recover our costs..."

But Nike said: "Just watch this. For all the philandering old dads out there who both judged and shaped the same behavior in their sons...and for those sons...for guys 9 to 90...come on back to Tiger. He shares your angst."

If anyone does not understand this concept. Watch the "Sons of Tucson" Pilot and just watch how the "fake" dad guilt's the principal into letting his "troublemaker' son back into class.

Check yourself people.

I'm glad Nike stayed too. After the Whiter than White head of the Masters tried to take Tiger down with his holier than thou remarks to Tiger I am even more glad. Don't know when/if Americans idiots like that will get their nose out of everybody's crotch. Maybe the old sinners will finally die off one day.

If I were Tiger I think it tempting to walk away from Augusta and see how many show up. Wish they would move that tournament, those old reprobates tarnish all they touch in the world.

It ain't about crotches, it's about golf, dum mit.
