Chris Rock Mocks Letterman's Sex Scandal (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/08/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:05 PM ET

David Letterman was suffering from a hoarse voice on his show Wednesday night, and his guest, Chris Rock, didn't make things any easier on him.

"Dave, what the hell happened to your voice? Things going bad at home?" Rock asked. "You're still doing the show? You're a rich man, you could just go home! Wife still mad at you, ain't she."

"Not much I can say here," Letterman replied.

"I was backstage, you fired all the cute girls," Rock continued. "Got a bunch of fat old guys there! The vibe is horrible, man, horrible!"

Letterman laughed, "I tell you, some of those guys are starting to look pretty good."

Rock is fantastic and I don't believe Letterman was married at the time the incident took place.

Rock is v. good--and Letterman has come back. (And he's probably still in hot water. ;o)

In 2004, Comedy Central produced a list of the top 100 stand-up comedians of all time. Number 1 was Richard Pryor, number 2 was George Carlin and number 3 was Lenny Bruce. However, Richard and George (both alive at the time) said Lenny should be number 1, because without him they would never have been able to do what they did. I only bring this up because down below there is a heated discussion about the greatest comics of all time. Now, comedy--like all art--is subjective and I won't get into a debate about who was the best. Even so, any discussion about the best comics would be remiss if it didn't mention Lenny. He might not have been the best, but he was the most important. Lenny gave his wealth and his career and--in the end--his life for the right for all comedians to practice their art. Richard Pryor said: "It was Lenny who said comedy wasn't about telling jokes . . .it was about telling the truth." Chris was just telling the truth and . . . it was funnier than any joke.

All true - but time-constricted. W.C. Fields was also an HYSTERICAL stand-up comedian - and a true pioneer of the genre, as well as a box-office giant. Unlike nearly all comedic film stars of his era (Chaplin, Lloyd, Keaton, etc), he took his act live and on the road - to sell-out appearances coast to coast. Of course, he rose to prominence as a vaudevillian, and was comfortable in the footlights. He was also BOTH the world's greatest juggler AND the world's greatest pool player...

There are, we're told, different sorts of intelligence: spatial intelligence, aural intelligence, kinesthetic intelligence. There's even, according to some, emotional intelligence. Where comedy fits into these groupings is not clear--at least to me. But, one thing is clear, among his peers in the entertainment business, David Letterman is uniquely and supremely intelligent.

I agree. (And I'll admit: I admire intelligence, backbone and kindness more than most other stuff. :o)

David Letterman’s a class act. He’s never shy to make the joke about himself.
02:33 PM on 04/09/2010
Class Act? You've got to be kidding. If it were your spouse who cheated on you with someone half your age and then on top of it you also found that they had screwed a ton of other people I doubt you would deem that classy. But if someone is on tv they always seem to get a pass from people. No pun intended.

( I posted this on another topic but it works here also)
We have all made mistakes, perhaps not like his but mistakes nonetheless. You have formed a very strong negative opinion based solely on what you've read and through the eyes of limited perspective. I’m not condoning his actions but I recognize that despite them he can still be a great guy. Like you, I don’t know him or his family personally and have never discussed this subject with them, so like you any opinion I form on his personal life is worthless. I do however know him very will as a great chat show host and find him to be, as said in my original post………... a class act.

There is nothing classy about him or what he did to his wife.

Both guys were funny. Dave did a great job deflecting with humor. However, as long as he stays married, it sounds like he is going to be miserable. He should have never gotten married in the first place.

I agree. Have you seen his wife? Yikes.

That was awesome.

Chris Rock is such a punk, and Letterman handled his punkishness perfectly.

Something we can all learn from comedians -- how to handle some teasing.

Agreed. I didn't spell it out, but that was the lesson I was drawing here. Dave was pitch-perfect and right on the money with this. He didn't get defensive, he didn't try to change the subject. He just took it with the grace he could muster and rolled on.

Fanned.

Dave should have asked him why no one can find Chris' "first pitch" on Youtube...

It makes Baba Booey look like Roger Clemens.

This whole interview was really good I miss the old Chris Rock.
