Lady Gaga Explains Why She's Celibate

Lady Gaga recently announced her celibacy, and in a new interview with the Daily Mail she explains why she's choosing not to have sex and talks about her role as a spokesperson in MAC's AIDS awareness Viva Glam campaign.

On celibacy:
I'm single right now and I've chosen to be single because I don't have the time to get to know anybody. So it's OK not to have sex, it's OK to get to know people. I'm celibate, celibacy's fine.

On pressures growing up:
I remember the cool girls when I was growing up. Everyone started to have sex. But it's not really cool any more to have sex all the time. It's cooler to be strong and independent.

On her Viva Glam lipstick shade:
There was this colour I used to wear when I was living in downtown New York called Pink Nouveau. It was a bright, toxic, neon pink. I was 18 and singing and a complete unknown, so didn't have much money to buy lots of nice make-up. Pink Nouveau was my "ta-da!" lipstick, the one thing that made me feel more famous than I was. So I asked the guys at Mac to make something that was derived from that.

strong and independent? then was she independently wealthy to be able to debut with a huge stage show, elaborate costumes and totally overproduced songs? this act never slung its own amps to clubs looking for a big break. seems to me she's just another created pop star with a manager or financial backer somewhere pulling the strings and selling her to us. time will tell whether there's anything to her beyond what mojo nixon would call prefab homogenized pablum.

actually she was a struggling artist performing in all the clubs growing up. she is a classically trained pianist and can actually sing. she is also smart enough to just go out and make this kind of music and make moneys, but she still gets her messages across that means something more than the other stock pop shit that is out. if you listen to her music you can hear a lot of stuff going on. her songs are well put together with everything going on.

I don't care for her much but, if she wants to concentrate on her career and not be distracted by love, good for her. It shows her ambition. I don't know why this topic is so strange? She will find love soon, i look at the hollywood stars and the phony men who use these women, ie. Jessie James, i think being cautious is the way to go..

i'm not an LG fan, though i think she's very talented. and i agree with what she's saying. i'm a 22 yo female and i've never had sex (not b/c i believe in abstinence until marriage--just b/c i don't think i want to have sex w/ any man until i'm in love, and i've never been in love). it's funny, i'm at grad school, and i was at a party on fri night and we were playing some card game that basically involved drinking and asking A LOT of questions about sex. as everyone kept talking about their numbers of hook-ups, oral s.ex encounters, threesomes, etc, i kept thinking "is this supposed to be cool or something? i bet half these people are lying". s.ex isn't everything. obviously it's important, but my entire existence does not revolve around it, but most college/grad students seem to think it should be the center of their universe. idk, maybe LG will have some influence among those who listen to her.

I don't know why these commenters are attacking you for saying celibacy is OK. I guess people will want to denigrate others who don't conform to their low behaviors. Sad and immature way to live.
