Alan Cumming Moves His Money

Alan Cumming

The financial crisis has encouraged many people to join the Move Your Money campaign and bank at local community banks and credit unions instead of major banks and financial institutions. Actor Alan Cumming revealed to New York Magazine's Daily Intel that he, too, has joined the movement.

In addition to asking about his favorite features of New York City, the magazine asked how he had been affected by the Wall Street crisis. He said he had taken his money out of a major financial firm and encouraged others to take his lead:

I moved what was left of my money away from Goldman Sachs. Go to moveyourmoney.info and do the same.

Cumming is not the first celebrity to endorse the Move Your Money campaign. Bill Maher and filmmaker Michael Moore have both backed the idea, as has Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), who chose to end her "abusive relationship" and open an account at a local community bank.

Moved mine out of BofA and into my local credit union.

Move yours, too. Unless you have reason to bank with known criminals, that it.

Been at my local credit union since 2004, made the switch in college when I realized BofA charged me a monthly fee to us my own money

F THAT!

Well CONS took their financial advise from an actor. A bad actor and a worse pres. Reagan..

No, you should get your financial advice from Wall Street, right? Because they have everyone's best interests at heart... How wonderful!!

Goodness! We are touchy. Sorry, you're right. Actors are an excellent source for financial advice. And when you need medical advice there's no-one better than retired sports commentators.

I saw him tonight in NYC, He was very dapper in a plaid suit. Conscientious too.

“I understand everyone has got to make money, but I think 18 percent is very reasonable, especially when that’s the state law,” Cahill said in the interview.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amazing. Is he saying that BoA is in continual violation of state law and refuse to abide by it? Why are they still in business then?
02:32 AM on 04/15/2010
Didn't you hear? Violating state law is like drinking water. Everybody does it. Especially polluters, insurance companies and financial institutions.

18 percent is "reasonable"? Wow, that used to be considered usury, now it's reasonable? I just don't get it.

That's about where mortgage rates were at one point in the seventies.

I moved most of my money into a local credit union. However, I do keep a small balance in my old bank. About once a month I'll move about $50 in or out of that checking account. They screwed up my credit rating a couple of years ago with an accounting change that even my lawyer and an accountant couldn't figure out. So now I'm screwing with them the old fashioned way, a little at a time.

I quit my abusive relationship with Wells Fargo about a month ago and I have no regrets.
Wells Fargo is so inept that a week after I closed my account with them some how someone got a hold of my old ATM card and had a small shopping spree in Milano Italy and Wells Fargo allowed the charges in spite of the fact this account was supposed to be closed. I came home from business trip and imagine my surprise when checking to make sure my old bank account was properly closed to discover $400 in over draft fees and a fraudulent charge which they initially tried to pass onto me.

Bloody crooks and I don't mean the the person who used an ATM card from a closed account.

Thank you, Alan, for joining the cause. I remember when my father, a construction worker, helped build one of our very first community banks back in the 1960s. It was called Citizens' Bank and that is exactly what it was--a bank for average citizens. I think his account number was 17. The service back then was "personal", which is now unheard of in the megabanks. People knew you by name and were friendly and helpful then. I miss that.

Oh and Alan, you look REALLY SEXY in a kilt too!! I'm Irish by heritage but I can't Riverdance.

DUH! I will never understand why anyone would want their money anywhere else. I don't think a single credit union had loan problems or failed in the financial meltdown caused by wall street. Better rates too.

Way to go Alan. I did just that. Hope that EVERYBODY takes the bold step and MOVE YOUR MONEY out of all banks run by dishonest, greedy creeps. Let's teach them a lesson and refuse to allow ourselves to be abused by CEO's of all the mega banks. The shameless, greedy pigs.

If you're not already watching "The Good Wife", you need to be. It was a poor marketing campaign for the show, however. Before the season started, it sounded from the advertising like it belonged on Lifetime netwrok, but it's an excellent show and both my wife and I are addicted. Tony & Ridley Scott rule.

But oh yeah, this actor guy is in that show.

Won't watch it. Worked with Chris Noth before and he is a dick of all dicks.

there are plenty of prima donnas in the business, but Alan Cumming is not one of them. Definitely a great show, and Chris Noth is on the screen maybe 2% of the time. Besides...we all know she's going to end up with the other guy eventually...
