CamdenForward Students Learn About Earth Day Through Art Projects

In Camden, N.J., a city where rampant unemployment and high rates of violent crime and substance abuse are the norm, the CamdenFoward School brings hope to local at-risk children.

Run by the organization UrbanPromise, the school pairs children with mentors to help them find supportive role models and engages them in creative projects to excite them about important global issues.

Leading up to Earth Day, CamdenForward students are learning about environmental issues by engaging in a campus-wide art project. Students will design banners made out of recycled materials that combine ideas of environmental protection and tree-planting with the concept of "growing" a more positive community in Camden. Banners will encircle the school to create an "urban forest" with their colorful tree designs.
