Twitter User Statistics REVEALED

At Chirp, the official Twitter developer conference, Twitter shared some revealing stats about its site, users, and growth that had previously been kept under wraps.

Here's a summary of the facts and figures Twitter shared:

• Twitter now has 105,779,710 registered users.

• New users are signing up at the rate of 300,000 per day.

• 180 million unique visitors come to the site every month.

• 75% of Twitter traffic comes from outside Twitter.com (i.e. via third party applications.)

• Twitter gets a total of 3 billion requests a day via its API.

• Twitter users are, in total, tweeting an average of 55 million tweets a day.

• Twitter's search engine receives around 600 million search queries per day.

• Of Twitter's active users, 37 percent use their phone to tweet.

• Over half of all tweets (60 percent) come from third party applications.

• Twitter itself has grown: in the past year alone, it has grown from 25 to 175 employees.

I'm curious if there are any statistics on how many Twitter users visit the home pages of other users; and how third party applications affect home page views. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I don't get these #s... and I am a web guy, so I understand web stats and analytics...

Twitter now has 105,779,710 registered users.

Reconcile those for me, please, someone?

80 M people come to the site each month that don't have accounts? Just to read the tweets? possible, but sounds odd...

I'd rather see stats about content -- aren't most tweets business-related in some way, like links to websites trying to increase their traffic, politicians and celebrities promoting themselves, businesses advertising, etc.? John Hodgeman and shitmydadsays are the only two really worth reading for me so far, once I finished looking for old boyfriends!

I dont know why people continue to bash twitter. Its a fun SOCIAL Networking site. If you see something funny, you post it to twitter, and other people can respond and enjoy the laugh with you. If you see a trending topic, you can add comments and join a discussion. Sometimes it can even be a great breaking news source (I.E. Micheal Jacksons death - I saw it as a trending topic on Twitter after CNN reported it but before it was on HuffPost or other major news sites).

Everyone has an opinion, now everyone can share what they think with a few keystrokes and click of a button. If is not your type of thing, JUST MOVE ON!

Wow, truly amazing stats for Twitter. Over 3 billion API request per day. No wonder their servers go down from time to time.

Impressive stats ... but I wonder how much is spam? From what I understand, most Twitter users quit after a few months, so their growth must be mostly through spam ... unless I am missing something.
