I have heard that North Carolina is pretty racist. Freddie Prinze, Jr. shot a movie there once and couldn't get over how prejudiced the people were. However, I'm sure there are pockets of open minds. I've also heard that it is beautiful. I think Asheville is probably yuppiefied like Savannah, Ga. And that's only mildly better than being a redneck.

NC has pockets of all kinds of people, but the general trend here if toward gentleness, above all. Especially in Asheville. Remember that NC went blue in November, and the Obamas are very much loved here. I don't think Asheville is so much yuppified as different; our motto is "keep Asheville Weird," and we try to. In a good way. You may have seen me post elsewhere that when Sarah Palin came to speak here—and God only knows why she did—we had our annual, pre-permitted Zombie parade on the same day, which marched right past the group of SP fans lined up outside the Thomas Wolffe auditorium where she was to speak. Classic Asheville. And the POTUS was well hosted here in October of 2008. He said he would come back, and now he and the first family will!

Asheville is one of the most progressive places in North Carolina/East Coast. And its beauty is unmatched!

Asheville is a very progressive city and the Grove Park Inn is High Class. Please keep in mind that NC did go to Obama in 08. In fact, not only did our state go to Obama we also elected Kay Hagan (D) as senator and Bev Purdue (D) as our first female Gov. Now if only we can get rid of Richard Burr this Nov. There are a lot of rednecks in NC but there are also a lot of progressives especially in Asheville, Charlotte and the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. If you have never visited this beautiful state you should vacation here yourself sometime. I would be happy to recommend places to visit :)

Look at that picture. You know he just wants to spend time with the kids and get some distance between him and his harpy wife.

Grove Park Inn...the original section reminds one of Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone, but rather than timber construction, it's a beautiful stone building. With Arts & Crafts furniture, a fine pool and exercise annex. Breakfast on the porch...ahhh, it's a terrific place for an extended weekend. He'll likely get in a round of golf. Whoever chose the lodging has excellent taste.

Obama stayed here for several days prepping for one of the debates before the election. At the one speech he made in Asheville at that time, he bemoaned that great golf course right outside his window that he didn't have the time to enjoy. I feel he himself made that decision.

Asheville is thrilled and honored to have the Obamas. It was great having the POTUS here before the election, and we look forward to hosting the first family.

I wish I could take as many vacations as the president of the United WAR States does.

This guy is vacationing all over the place while we have Soldiers killing and being Killed in the Middle East. I think we need to get our priorities straight over here.

I always thought vacation and relaxation came after the job was done.

Oh give it a rest. He's entitled to a weekend here and there just like the rest of us. Did you complain about Bush?
05:04 PM on 04/19/2010
When I first read this post I said (out loud) "you are a fool". But my mother always told me it is not nice to call people names, so I will just say "this post is foolish". If this is all you got, you need to give up trying to disrespect the President and try doing/saying something that will benefit the world (instead of complaining about about what some else is not doing)...so typical, you people seem to always be saying something but doing nothing. Oh, just go away, why don't cha!

Bush took more vacation time than he spent at the White House.
All that brush he had to clean up at the faux ranch.

Psssttt...Bush isn't president anymore. Get over it. Also try to get over your belief that it is good enough to suck less than the last guy. We need more than that.
10:04 PM on 04/19/2010
Well if they were silent on Bush's vacations, they have no business bellyaching on Obama's days off. These people were not saying that Bush sucked - in fact they were his primary cheerleaders. Just check the pew research poll which showed that in 2002, "trust in government" was at it's highest. The double standard is STILL RELEVANT and mind-boggling.

not when you are president. it comes with the job description. want to have privacy? don't run for public office or try to get your 15 min of fame

Well said.

Remember, they are supposed to work for us - I mean I know that is a joke, that they really control us - but I am saying how it was supposed to be. So we should know EVERYTHING about these people as possible - the same way they know about us, through all the spying they do thanks to such bills as FISA & the Patriot Act.

Here in the NC mountains, Buncombe County (Asheville) and Watauga County (Boone)....Went for the President.

As a Wataugan...Welcome Mr. President! I apologize for our Fox viewing, Limbaugh worshipping mountain counties that rely heavily on government largess while screaming about "Socialism".
