If she survives it. Funny how no one seems to be concerned for THIS child's right to life - regardless of the fact that she had sex unwillingly and became pregnant against her will.

And having the Catholic Church weigh in on the morality of this (or any situation) right now would be like inviting the CEO of Toyota to a seminar on auto safety.

Pregnant women have never been treated well by the Catholic Church...actually in the 1950s, it was considered that in these cases where the mother might die in child birth, the church preferred the child living over the mother dying. That is why I am a lapsed Catholic. I couldn't buy that part of the dogma. It is a hierarchial, male-dominated religion and it will always be that way as long as priests, cardinals, bishops, and popes run the church. The Catholic Church lacks all humanity when it comes to the issues/treatment of women and children.

This child has been failed by:
1) her stepfather who raped her;
2) her mother who failed to protect her;
3) child services that kept her in the dark about her medical options;
4) community members who are more interested in making political hay of her situation than in helping her;
5) her local government that has made abortion illegal for everyone who cannot travel to Mexico City; and
6) her church that believes that her life and health are secondary to a fetus.

This is outrageous! The girl didn't just fall through a crack in the system; she was violently put there and then kept in her place. Children in particular should be protected from this kind of abuse.

No, I bet the poster meant to say the fetus. And of course, before that the zygote and the embryo were given more concern than a real child.

Yes, I know the self named and in many instances so called right to life people want you to think of all of those things as 'babies', but that does not make it so.

short of murder, i can't imagine anything more horrifying for a child to endure than being raped. and after such a horror, forcing a 10-year old girl -- who is chronologically closer to being a baby herself than a mother -- to carry a fetus to term and then give birth? anyone proposing such a scenario is an effing psychopath who should be locked up with the rapist.

The kid is in the hands of the Child protective services who FAILED to get her a legal abortion when they had the opportunity. They failed to explain her rights and options and the laws associated with her situation. They also removed her from the care of her mother who brought this to the attention of authorities, and tried to protect her child.

The Roman Catholic Church vocally opposes abortion in Mexico, even in ten year olds who were raped, and who face serious risk of death by carrying a pregnancy to full term.

And the irony is that if the fetus is female, it ultimately will only have a right to life until it is old enough to reproduce.

Is this 10 year old likely to die from delivering a baby? Is her body mature enough to take the physical trauma of childbirth? SHe did not ask to have a child. She was not on birth control that failed. She was not promiscuous, she was raped. Tell me pro-lifers, who's life takes precedence?

Even if the mother and child survive, who is going to take care of the girl and the baby?

The fetus's of course - that is until it is born and becomes a baby. Then it, like the 10-year-old mother can enjoy a life of neglect. After all, if it couldn't support itself, the mother shouldn't have allowed herself to be raped and impregnated.

Molestation knows no ethnicity. We just dealt with an illegal Mexican family where the boys had been molested in Mexico by relatives. Another relatives smuggled them into the country. Now one relative remains while the others were deported. I'd like to take all the adults who lust after children and put them before a firing squad with their little organs hanging out!
