Sudan Election: VIDEO Emerges Of Alleged Ballot Stuffing

Footage of alleged vote rigging in Sudan has appeared on YouTube, reports the BBC.

The footage could not be independently verified, although Sudan's National Elections Commission (NEC) declared the footage fake.

Allegedly filmed in the eastern Red Sea state, the video appears to show election officials stuffing ballot boxes.

Sudan Democracy First Group, a coalition of trade unions and activists, has been circulating the video.

This April saw the African nation's first democratic election in 24 years, with preliminary results suggest President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has won. Many opposition leaders have criticized the election, with some refusing to take part.

The United States, Norway and Great Britain have urged Sudan's election body to tackle disputes that arise "effectively and impartially."

"Political rights and freedoms were circumscribed throughout the electoral process, there were reports of intimidation and threats of violence in South Sudan, ongoing conflict in Darfur did not permit an environment conducive to acceptable elections, and inadequacies in technical preparations for the vote resulted in serious irregularities," the White House said in a statement.

"The United States regrets that Sudan's National Elections Commission did not do more to prevent and address such problems prior to voting," it said.
