Avatar Earth Day RELEASE: James Cameron Film Comes Out On DVD, Inspires 'Home Tree' Earth Day 2010

The Avatar Earth Day release is no coincidence, and Avatar director James Cameron will be the first to tell you that.

"I'm not coming out of the closet as an environmentalist," Cameron recently said about Avatar and the Earth Day 2010 release. "I think I was pretty up front about it. I think the themes of the film have been pretty overt."

Avatar has caused some to call April 22, 2010, 'Home Tree' Earth Day and it inspired a worldwide tree-planting campaign, involving a million trees in 15 countries.

In fact, Cameron and actress Sigourney Weaver have just returned from a trip to the Amazon rainforests and have been talking about the importance of preserving the environment.

Look To The Stars reports that a special screening of Avatar will take place in Los Angeles, coinciding with a Home Tree Earth Day event that Cameron will participate in.

Cameron told the Los Angeles Times he's now working on Avatar 2, and that the sequel will have a new environment -- namely, the ocean:

Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment - a different setting within Pandora. And I'm going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won't be a rain forest.
