Julie Manly, American Doctor, Tries To Save Hospital In Haiti

First Posted: 06/21/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:15 PM ET

Dr. Julie Manly was one of many American health professionals who traveled to Haiti following the January 12 earthquake. She was surprised to find a relatively sophisticated hospital that was still standing, though badly damaged.

She's returned to Port-au-Prince twice since, determined to save the hospital that is receiving little financial support. To date, she's raised over $200,000. She was profiled recently on NBC Nightly News' "Making A Difference" segment.

Where do I donate to help Dr. Manly? Is anyone else planning to help her out?

Partners in Health is one of the great non-profits of the World. They started giving out free health care in Haiti long before the earthquake.

I think it appropriate to mention that this is the ONLY hospital in Port-au-Prince that is still operating and even with that it has ward rooms outside under tents to handle the overflow. I keep wondering why this hospital hasn't received massive amounts of aid from several organizations, particularly since it is the ONLY ONE there! Dr. Manley has said they don't have medicines, as well as simple things like band-aids! We've heard of these hundreds of millions of dollars that have been raised but where the hell is the money going?

Props to this doc. Unfortunately, extraordinary human beings like Dr. Manley are mostly overlooked by the MSM. They rather hype the Kardashians of the world.

NBC has had two stories on this Doc in their "Making A Difference" segment at the end of the Nightly News with Brian Williams and both stories were in the last two weeks.
