Paramhamsa Nityananda, an Indian holy man whose alleged appearance in a sexually charged video sparked outrage across the country, has been arrested in Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, the BBC reports.

The 'sex tape swami' is now facing charges for obscenity. Authorities raided his complex in Bangalore on Tuesday.

"Nithyananda Swami was arrested at Solan [in Himachal Pradesh] along with his associate Gopal Seelam Reddy and they would be brought to Bangalore soon," said Bangalore's director general of police.

Nithyananda caused outrage in India after a video apparently showing him cavorting with young females was aired on local television.

A Hindu holy man, he was reported to have over 2 million followers and have over 11 ashrams in India and 26 in different countries around the world. He has since resigned from his post.
