Spring

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Spring comes about 10 days earlier in the United States than it did two decades ago, a consequence of climate change that favors invasive species over indigenous ones, scientists said on Tuesday.

Here in ( fill in the blank), which represents (.ooooox%) of the earth's surface, our (name a species) are (x weeks) behind schedule. This conclusively proves that a tidbit of information in the hands of a lone gardener can be made to look significant when it is really not.
Has CO2 stopped absorbing infrared? Have we stopped pumping billions of tons of it into the atmosphere every year? Is the global average temperature at or near the highest on record for this time of year (IT IS!)? Are Exxon Mobil and Koch spending millions to accuse scientists of hoaxing while they themselves are perpetrating a loathsome hoax? Where are the skeptics' climate models for us to examine? Oh yeah, and are your azaleas blooming late because of extra moisture, insects, lack of nutrients or some other factor? Is it possible that the highest sea surface temperature on record is evaporating more water and dumping an unusual amount of rain and snow on you this spring and winter? BTW, the lilacs are about 2-3 weeks ahead schedule where I am. Have a nice day.

here in augusta, the azaleas are two weeks behind. we always had azaleas & easter lilies at masters time. not this year. many other across the usa say their blooms are also running late. we are still waiting for spring.

One day people will look back at Al Gore and realize he was a charlatan of the worst kind, and his An Inconvenient Truth flick will be the new "Reefer Madness".

If this is all it takes for spring to come early, then I'm going to drive my SUV to Walmart to buy plastic crap a few more times this year.

Myopic stance. You do know that plastic causes sterility in most animals, right?

Al Gore really gets your knickers in a twist, don't he! Beating scapegoats may make you feel good, but it doesn't advance science nor is it a scientific argument and by the way, the earth is billions of years old. Not 6000. Have a nice day.

When can I put out my tomatoes in Zone 6? Would be nice if I could do it next week. They are getting big.

One notices when making a statement to deniers they always ask for evidence. I just wonder why they never question the silly right-wing websites where they get all their misinformation from for evidence. They seem to be skeptical of anything not spoon fed to them by the far right.

Stop Global Whining!
Change is inevitable. Mother Nature will adapt and the world will continue to exist.
Allowing the Washington Beltway Bandits to mandate new taxes in support of faux science is a much greater threat to humanity than any scenario the global warming loons have invented to date.

Biodiversity will be lost during this adapting. If you are fine with that you have nothing to worry about.

The earth will be fine but humans probably wont be. Human societies need a stable environment to survive. I don't have children. Do you?

In Central Minnesota, Spring is ONE MONTH early. The trees are green, flowers have bloomed, and people are mowing their lawns. At this time in some past years, there was still snow on the ground.

I believe in global warming...
08:32 AM on 04/22/2010
and at some time in future years, there will still be snow on the ground. Nature changes year to year. Always has, always will.

The discussion over Arctic sea ice seems to have opened up again.

Here are the facts, please see for yourself:

http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm

Comments, please.
02:30 PM on 04/22/2010
so 2007 was minimum, followed by 2008, followed by 2009.

2003 was most ice during minimum season, followed by 2002.

So the last 3 years in the short data set show the minimum ice extent and the first 2 years in the short data set show the most ice during the season minimum.

And from this what do you deduce? That the ice has been growing for the last 3 years? ok, well within variability. Get back to me when this chart returns to the the 1979 levels:
http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/sea.ice.anomaly.timeseries.jpg

or this one:
http://nsidc.org/images/arcticseaicenews/20091005_Figure3.png

the two graphs from NSIDC and UIUC both support the same trend as the shorter data from the jaxa system, so it is safe to believe that their data prior to the jaxa system coming online is reliable.

Do you disagree?

I guess the whole climate debate thing re surges every time the weather does anything out of the ordinary; but answer me this...when does mother nature ever do anything ordinary anyway?
All these changes are part of the cause and effect cycle of which humans are a part.
It's nice to see spring and I hope we all can have a great Earth Day celebration.
At http://www.lifeasahuman.com we're printing multiple stories by international authors on their perspectives on Mother Earth on Earth Day trying to do our bit to help how we as humans relate to the earth. It's about connection isn't it, value and care.
Love to know what you think.
04:56 PM on 04/21/2010
How do you define ordinary? Mother Nature?

Nature has many cycles for many different things. Are not most of these ordinary? The tides, the sun rising, the birds migrating, animals giving birth at certain times etc etc.

As far as your connections stuff, I think you should add sustainability, cradle to cradle thinking. It is more than connection and caring, it is living in a conscious and sustainable way.

It isn't the singular incidents, but the global trends that concern. Even without AGW, there are literally thousands of other reasons to stop polluting the earth and the seas. We act as if there are no consequences to our lifestyles, and that is completely stupi//d.

I am a scientist, and we just had snow here two days ago, which was highly unusual.

I don't deny any possibilities...but I have seen zero evidence of significant climate change. And if you're worried about excess CO2, plant a load of trees and various greenery, it's relatively simple.

Yes, yet another happenstance due to climate change, or is it?

Here is a nice display depicting this spring change in the good ole USA,. but don't forget, climate change is global and this is happening all over the planet-
