Bill Brady: Ban Personal Use Of State Cars

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady called for an end to personal use of state cars after two high-profile DUIs in the past week, NBC Chicago reports.

Garrett Cullerton, son of Senate President John Cullerton, was pulled over last Sunday night with a blood alcohol content of .188, more than double the legal limit. Garrett was driving his father's Senate vehicle at the time.

Three days earlier, James V. Lobianco, a deputy city commissioner in charge of providing emergency services for the homeless, rear-ended a car stopped at a red light at Broadway and Ainslie in Uptown. He was driving a Toyota Prius registered to the city. He has since resigned from the Department of Family and Support Services.

These incidents provoked Brady, the conservative Republican state senator challenging incumbent Pat Quinn for Illinois governor, to take a populist stand.

"The sense of entitlement that the ruling class in Illinois feels has got to end," he said, according to NBC Chicago. "It's common sense. Every taxpayer dollar spent must serve the public."

This is not the first time Brady's used the phrase "ruling class" recently. Earlier this week, when Gov. Quinn released his tax returns showing $157,000 in gross income, Brady said, "Today just shows again that Pat Quinn is part of the public sector ruling class."

Quinn has also called for a review of the personal use of state cars following the week's incidents.
