Mayor Daley On Rahm Emanuel's Mayor Remark: 'It's Not Stepping On My Toes' (VIDEO)

While other local politicians did not seem thrilled about Rahm Emanuel's interest in becoming Chicago's mayor some day, Mayor Daley himself was supportive of Emanuel at a Friday press conference.

"Sure, everybody would like to be mayor. This is a great city," Daley told reporters, according to NBC Chicago's Ward Room.

"It's not stepping on my toes. Rahm's a good friend of mine," Daley continued. "I thought it was something he should be proud of, that someday he would like to be mayor of the city of Chicago. There's nothing wrong with that."

Daley also said he and Emanuel have discussed Emanuel's future plans, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"Sure I talked to him, I talk to him. Sure, I know about it," Daley said, but added that he did not advise Emanuel. "I don't give any advice, I don't give people advice. I don't advise people, I'm not an adviser."

On Monday, Emanuel told Charlie Rose during an interview that he hopes to be Chicago's mayor one day.

"I hope Mayor Daley seeks reelection," Emanuel said. "I will work and support him if he seeks reelection. But if Mayor Daley doesn't, one day I would like to run for mayor of the city of Chicago...That's always been an aspiration of mine even when I was in the House of Representatives."

As for Daley, when reporters asked about his future plans Friday, he gave a very Daley response: "I'm at a press conference, I'm not here to tell you what's going to happen in the future."
