Morimoto: Kosher Butcher?

"Iron Chef" Masaharu Morimoto tried his hand at koshery butchery last night, butchering a full tuna and rolling sushi with the help of Rabbi Yonah Metzger -- the chief Rabbi of Israel -- at the Lubavitch Youth Organization's "Grand National Testimonial Dinner" last night at Cipriani on Wall Street in New York.

Morimoto has a personal connection to the organization due to the Mumbai terrorist attacks that killed key members of the Lubavitch Youth Organization, and also destroyed Morimoto's restaurant.

Morimoto gave Rabbi Metzger a tutorial in tuna butchery, and then the Chief Rabbi of Israel signed off on the meal as kosher. "I spent weeks studying kosher principles to make sure I got it right" the Iron Chef told Page Six.

The tuna was served in the form of, among other things: Tuna Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Roll, Tuna Pizza, and Tuna Carpaccio.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was also in attendance.
