Before the jabberers on the right (What about the huge debt, the broken tax pledge, the paucity of overseas accomplishments?), the yammerers on the left (Guantánamo hasn't been closed, gays aren't serving openly in the military, and too many policies cater to business interests) and the chides in the media (POTUS and party poll numbers are down, and Washington is more partisan than ever), look at the two key metrics that underscore Obama's accomplishments. It is too early to assess the ultimate measure of victory: whether the President's actions have been prudent and beneficial, domestically and internationally. But by Election Day 2010, Obama will have soundly achieved many of his chief campaign promises while running a highly competent, scandal-free government. Not bad for a guy whose opponents (in both parties) for the White House suggested that he was too green in national life to know how to do the job -- and whose presidency began in the midst of a worldwide economic crisis that demanded urgent attention and commanded much of his focus.

TIME has a long history of promoting the powerful interests while ignorring or demeaning the aspirations and rights of ordinary Americans. Thus, accolades from this media propaganda organ representing our power elite. There is not one word about the true condition of the vast generality of the Americaqn people as affected by the Obama Administration. The question is always the same: Is the orgaqnization continuing to fail or turning towards opportunity and productivity of all Americans? Obama, modelling after the Bush Bunch has favored the few at the expense of the future of the many.
If President Obama had chosen to focus on job creation and rebuilding, would TIME have such an apologetic and glowing article?

I havent been able to look any of our presidents in the face....cant stand the sound of their voices, their constant lies...since Kennedy. He wasnt perfect, who is? but Kennedy had goals of compassion & what was good for the American people. Yes, JFK had some weaknesses, but it was clear that he was taking the US in a good direction after the Cuban crisis. The generals wanted to go to war and he got a fair deal without it, and they hated him for that and the test ban treaty.

Many of us, after examining mountains of evidence and distortions in the Warren com., believe a rogue element in the military and intell arranged Dallas. Oswald for example just happened to have a room next to US Navy intell in New Orleans; do you really think they would have allowed that if he really was a Red, No ?!

Then you have a 3rd rate rifle, a moving car that oddly after years of training almost comes to a dead stop while the shooting goes on, his head goes backward as from a shot from the front, etc., etc.; this was proof that the right wing extremist's will Do Anything for Power! Which is why they stole the Ohio 2004 election too.

I love it when Facts and not emotions determine how good a President is. Fact Obama has done alot of his campaign promises. Emotion-- He's a socialist, he bows to others, etc. I'm glad theres a VERY short list of people who can be POTUS, the VAST majority of us aren't, for that i'm glad.

I am not a citizen of your republic, but I love your country, and am a citizen of the world...just like you...just like all of us. I have watched how far you have come...seen how much you have accomplished...heard the hope on your constituents tongues....in your speeches.

I appreciate not only what you are trying to do for your country, but for common men and women throughout the world. You speak of peace , but will not succumb to the ev il around us all that exists.

You guys are forever claiming this crap, because Obama does not do the Bushco Mission Accomplished banner for meaningless victories. No accomplishments? Really? Are you not paying attention, or just failing to tell the truth? That is a lie, of course.

Presidents have been trying for 98 years to have an actual national health care plan, since it was first proposed by Teddy Roosevelt as Bull Moose party candidate in 1912. Obama got that. Teddy didn't. FDR didn't. Johnson didn't. Nixon Didn't, nor Clinton.

A few others...

- Created an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to invest in peer-reviewed manufacturing processes

- Increase minority access to capital

- Improved the student load program to provide far more loans to far more students without raising spending.

- Established a credit card bill of rights

- Extended and index the 2007 Alternative Minimum Tax patch, reducing taxes for the middle class.

Obama's done an excellent, gutsy, honorable, intelligent job, under the worst circumstances any president has faced since 1941. He saved us all from Depression, achieving decent growth for the economy in barely a year. He passed the best health care bill Congress would have given anyone in this political climate. He's done his best to save us all, and especially NYC, from Bin Laden's attainment of Pakistan's hydrogen bombs, though, for all we know, Bush's six years of stupid neglect may have made victory over the Taliban and Bin Laden impossible now. In any case, he's fighting the good fight, win or lose. And now he's about to get a decent financial reform bill from Congress, too. On top of this, Obama's the first President since Carter, except for Bush I, to stand up to Israel, and seek a genuinely just resolution of the Arab-Israeli dispute, which America desperately needs to help reduce murderous hatred of us, and endless wars, in the Middle East. Finally, Obama has raised America's standing in the world more than any President in decades. Given all these achievements, it's had to see how anyone can argue that Obama's not had the most consequential first year in office since Reagan's first term.
