First Posted: 06/28/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:20 PM ET

When it comes to Duke basketball, people either love the team or hate it. But at the end of the day, it's just a game, which is why one recent Duke analogy may have gone too far.

The hit television show "Glee" compared Duke basketball to Nazis on Tuesday night. In the controversial scene, Mike O'Malley's character Burt Hummel says, "I hate Duke like I hate the Nazis." Yes, it's the second sports-related Nazi comparison in less than a week. Scroll down to watch the scene. Did the TV show take things too far?

Quick Poll

Did "Glee" go to far?

Yes, Nazi comparisons are never ok.

I hate Michigan, but I would never compare them to Nazis or any other disparaging term.

Well judging by some of the things Dukes says to opposing team at Cameron Arena, Duke might deserve some razzing, but they aren't exactly Nazis They have said things about people's mothers who were ill and other very personal attacks w. Physical stuff like throwing condoms, panties, and twinkies at players. Rude but again not Nazi behavior so no they shouldn't have been compared to Nazis.

It's easy to see why people hate such institutions like Duke, USC, Yale and Harvard -- they smack of smartass elitism and entitlement. In fact, I know of one USC alumni who refuses to put his graduate degree on his resume lest he get dirty looks from job headhunters.

Glee is in many ways a very politically incorrect show. Much of Sue Sylvester's dialogue falls into that category.

Why is it ok to say you hate Duke on national TV, but you cant say you hate
jews or gays, or Polish people for that matter..still hatred, still bigotry, same stupidity, harnfulness.

Bigotry? Stupidity?
Do you like everything or do you dislike some things? Intensely. How do you articulate that? If you detest Brussel Sprouts don't you say, "I hate them." Hate is an acceptable word and an acceptable expression.

Can a guy like a sports team and not like another sports team? Not like them intensely? Hate them?
Is every character on TV supposed to 100% politically correct?
Do you want robots or human beings?
05:10 PM on 04/30/2010
You can say you hate those things. Who's stopping you??
11:02 PM on 04/29/2010
Oh pleae. What is with the semantics. If you hate something the same, you are drawing comparisons between them. If you can hate a team as much as you hate the killer of millions of people than that's a LOT of hate and must mean that you see something similar in the two.

I'm sure this "joke" was hilarious to the captain of the Duke team. Who is Jewish.

I dont think people's skin is as thin as that.

Are you familiar with the movie and stage production "The Producers"?
If people were that thin-skinned it never would have gotten made and remade... again.
Most of the people associated with the production--from mel brooks on down--are Jewish.

all brooks' work makes fun of the nazi's.

could you imagine the reaction, though, if somebody called brooks a nazi? that is a more apt analogy in this situation.

Misleading headline. He doesn't compare Duke to Nazis. He compares how much he hates Duke to how much he hates Nazis.

Very big difference, and nothing like what the shock jock said about Tebow's family.

He compared his dislike for Duke to his dislike for Nazi's. He did not compare Duke to Nazi's!! He compared his dislike!
