$72M Bel Air Mansion To Rival Versailles For Sale

First Posted: 6/30/10   Updated: 5/25/11

Via Real Estalker, a three story 10 bedroom, 14 bathroom beast of a Bel Air Mansion has hit the market for the reduced price of $72M (it was $82M in 2009). The 48,000 sq. foot mega-mansion sits behind a 36 foot tall stone wall on 2.2 acres of land, and features an infinity pool, swan pond, landscaped gardens, and breathtaking views of the city. Some of the palatial estate's other comforts are a 5,000 bottle wine cellar, a 20 car parking garage, an indoor gym, a media room, an elevator, a "grand ballroom," a screening room, and yes--its very own Moroccan themed lounge. The owner of this opulent whopper is Mr. Mohamed Hadid, who made his fortune developing the Ritz Carlton hotels as well as the estate where Michael Jackson lived and died. Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker has the listing.

That house is so tacky - how tacky? I can visualize Jesse James and his tatoo girls living there.

BILLIONS of dollars of gaudy kitsch .....you couldn't PAY me to live in that tasteless cesspool

Whoever decorated this place has more money than sense. Or taste.

I guess if you have it like that, whatever melts your butter. I just would never even THINK of having a place that size because there is no way I'd have anywhere near enough folks over in it!

Beautiful home though. JMO

Oh, come on now! Enough with the over-the-top comparisons. But, I must admit, a couple of those rooms do look as if they came straight from some petrol-prince's desert dacha. It just screams neavaux riche.

But, seriously, Versailles was mainly built to overawe a rebellious nobility. Louis XIV, as a child, saw power politics played out in it's worst form, a civil war (La Fronde) between the nobles and the king (i.e., weak dispersed government vrs more powerful centralized rule). It only took a hundred years before the financial burden of maintaining the place (plus money given to support the American Revolution) nearly bankrupted France's treasury, helping to bring on the French Revolution.

Ouch, the place looks like it was built simply to scream "I have MONEY!!!"

It would cost millions just to make it livable.

You couldn't "live" in that? LMAO!!!

My favorite furniture store is where it looks like it was furnished, too bad I have to boycott it because of their current laws:

where was this place in 1789? It would fit right in.
So, now we know where Marie Antoinette went after the execution!

In the old days, owners of bigger houses would close part of the house during winter to stay in one section of the home, maybe to save money, but too to keep a cozy ambiance. This house is too much. Could be used as a nice museum, or a parachute drop-off for James Bond.

Looks nice from the outside. Looks like a museum from the inside.

I would rather by a ranch here in New Mexico. I'd have a great climate, room for the horses and a view to die for. And, money left over...
