Yale Murderer Lishan Wang Apologizes For Killing Vajinder Toor

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — An unemployed Georgia doctor charged with fatally shooting a Yale University physician acknowledged he was at the crime scene at the time of the shooting and said he was sorry for what happened, police said Friday.

Branford police released a report by an officer who interviewed 44-year-old Lishan Wang, who is accused of killing Vajinder (vah-JIN'-der) Toor on Monday outside Toor's home.

Toor, originally from India, was shot five times. Wang also shot at Toor's pregnant wife but missed, police said.

Police say Wang told them he had been accused of threatening Toor and poking him in the eye when they worked together at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in New York. A history of confrontations with Toor and other colleagues at Kingsbrook led to his dismissal two years ago. He also had a federal discrimination lawsuit pending against the hospital.

Printouts on two other people directly involved in Wang's dismissal and directions were found in Wang's van when he was arrested shortly after the shooting, police said. The vehicle also had 1,000 rounds of ammunition, a wig, hammer and a knife, police said Tuesday.

Wang was found with handguns matching shell casings from the slaying scene, loaded magazines, Google directions to Toor's house and a picture of the victim, authorities said.

Wang is charged with murder, attempted murder and firearms offenses. His lawyer, Scott Jones, did not immediately return a message for comment Friday.

Wang told police he was at Toor's condominium complex between two to 10 minutes Monday, but he did not know why he wanted to see Toor, the report said. He indicated that he had a conversation with Toor, but the report does not elaborate and a police spokesman declined to comment.

"Mr. Wang also confirmed that he was sorry for what happened at the condo," the police report states.

Wang said it was the first time he had seen Toor since they worked together at Kingsbrook, the report said.

Wang also said he might try to kill himself, police said. He was placed on suicide watch.

Wang is a married father of three, and his last known address was in Marietta, Ga.

Toor was a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale School of Medicine who was working with the infectious disease section of Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The police report also quotes a person whose name is blacked out as saying Wang had threatened other employees at Kingsbrook.

Having witnessed first hand the corrupt underbelly of brooklyn/NYC medical residency, and the exploitative practices, I am willing to give the benefit of doubt to dr wang that he was treated unfairly. However, even in the worst scenario, as a doctor, how could he justify shooting at dr toor's pregnant wife? Without a doubt he is as antisocial and psychotic as his critics claim, unfit to be a doctor.

This is not about race. In my experience, many professional conflicts do involve doctors of indian descent because of their sheer numbers and outspoken culture.

Why are we importing doctors from other countries? There are plenty of Americans of all races willing to work in healthcare if given the chance. If the only way we can serve out people's healthcare needs is by running inner city sweatshop hospitals staffed by foreign doctors, something is very wrong with out medical education system!

An apology is much too insuffifient to replace what was taken and can never be replaced. You can be sorry for being late, being insulting, being unkind, but you can never offer such trite for killing another human being. There's not a measure worthy of such a thing.
