Tiger Slam Golf Clubs Woods Irons Ebay Auction

UPDATE: Woods says the clubs are not authentic.

EARLIER:

A set of golf clubs purportedly used by Tiger Woods during his masterful "Tiger Slam" performance of 2000-01 is for sale on eBay. The starting bid is just a quarter of a million dollars. Golf Digest discovered the listing.

According to the auction page, the irons are "the actual set used by Tiger in the 'Tiger Slam.'" The listing provides additional details about the irons:

These irons were specially made for Tiger by Titleist. Tiger previously used a mixed set of Mizuno blades, Titleist made these clubs especially for Tiger and they were modeled on the Mizuno MP-14's and MP-29's. When arranging his contract with Titleist, he stipulated that he would sign if they could make a set identical to the Mizunos he was using. They obliged, and a very lucrative contract was formed for both parties.

The Tiger Slam refers to Woods' dominant streak at golf's majors during the beginning of the 2000s, when he won four straight majors beginning with the 2000 U.S. Open and culminating at the 2001 Masters. Scroll down for pictures of the clubs.

Quick Poll

At $250,000, these golf clubs are...

a bargain.

a ripoff.

He's lying. Elin took them and is auctioning them off to spite him.

As predicted: Announcement of review of Woods status as #1 under review by the PGA, today. The PGA can no longer prop up Woods with that phony #1 rating he's had for more than four years. Since last year, he has not rated the #1 rank, but the PGA has always found ways to prop up his status. Now that Woods is no longer reverred or feared on the tour, the boys in cleats are bit@hing about his ranking. About time. He has not been the #1 player for more than a year, but has remained there whether he played or not.

Watch, tho, the PGA still keep him in the top 10, another phony rank. He got to #1 by beating everybody 7 or 8 times a year. He hasn't done that in nearly two years. And he has not won more than one major in the last four years or so. The PGA will still keep him in the top 10 to chance that Woods will suddenly dominate again. Ain't gonna happen.

Did Tiger make up the criteria for the ranking system? Could you please inform the readers how the rankinging system on the PGA tour is determined.

It was only a matter of time before the snakes crawled out of the wood work to complain about the ranking, this same type of complaint has been heard on the LPGA regarding Lorena Ochoa.

Change the rules when you don't like the results this has been the history of America. Don't worry you will get your secret wish. Phil annointed as #1.

You clearly don't know anything about golf. Tiger won more tournaments than any one last year, won the FEDEX cup, won the Vardon, Golf Writers and PGA player of the year awards. They have been tinkering with the rating methodology since Tiger began dominating to deny Tiger his ranking and make it easier for someone to take it from him. They just revised the ratings system again to focus more on last 16 weeks than previously calculated. Tiger deserved and deserves his ranking as he has been the most consistent golfer for over 13 years, years when he did not win more than 5 tournaments (which most golfers do NOT) were when he as chaning his swing (2003/2004), surgery 2008, and this year! If Tiger can keep his focus this week, it will be challenging to even keep the ranking as he has not fared well at the Players Championship in a long time.

Learn the game before trying to denigrate the worthy #1 player IN the game!

So, let's see. You agree then that the PGA "tinkers" with the rating system and in favor of Tiger, particularly because they are focusing instead on just the last 16 weeks? Considering, that prior to that Tiger was on hiatus and just came back to golf during the approximate last 16 weeks, I can at least understand WHY other golfers would want to question the ratings system. They too, may "change their swing", and/or have had "surgery". but the PGA should give Tiger instead more allowances because of? Why? Because as you state of "this year", I presume you mean Tiger's "personal" problems? Mickleson had far, far greater personal problems, his wife AND mother diagnosed with breast cancer. Think about it and then tell me who should be the "worthy" #1 player. And, oh, no one has to denigrate Tiger, he does just fine on his own with that. 121 and counting.

Thye are authentic in that, if you buy them, you get shafted by Tiger.
08:55 PM on 05/04/2010
They are not authentic. Tiger is no slouch - look at the wedge with 58 degrees on the bottom of the club, but next to the "Tiger" engraved it shows 56 degrees. Surelt Tiger's clubs would be consistent as he well could afford the best! Shame, shame, shame. More dishonesty and greed in this scandal.

In today's Press Conference at the "Players", Tiger Woods said that the clubs that were used for the "Tiger Slam" were still in his possession in his garage.

I'm certain that the clubs would be authenticized by an expert. Most pros have dozens of sets of clubs.

IF these clubs are for real - the thing that strikes me is that while accepting Titleist money, Woods insisted on playing Titleist-made Mizuno irons. So they weren't really Titleist irons.

Tiger is telling his fans to play Titleist, while he's actually playing Mizuno. Another phoney deal.

Of course, Tiger dropped Titleist in favor of Nike - so it begs the question: is Tiger playing a Nike version of Titleist-made Mizunos?

Ya want to super size that?
10:09 PM on 05/03/2010
Agreed. I have been playing the same blades for 30 years on a variety of courses in the 48. I will buy new when I learn to hit them properly.

But, the point is.... my blades cost $350.00 back then, were not custom made, never had a caddie who earns a million plus a year care for them, and they look a heckava lot better than these clubs.

I call BS.

Pretty crappy job on the "Tiger" ID, too. I'd expect to see his name forged in the clubhead, not machined/stamped on. That looks pretty amatuerish....or someone added it to give the bid authenticity.
