Times Square Bomb Attack Videos Surface

First Posted: 07/03/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:20 PM ET

Two dramatic videos from Saturday's failed car bomb attack in Times Square have surfaced.

The first comes from a Brazilian tourist who was filming when fireworks began exploding inside the Nissan Pathfinder.

Police officers can be seen evacuating the area as Alexandre De Amorim Teixeira keeps his camera rolling.

The second video, obtained by the New York Post shows the SUV smoking immediately after the initial explosions.

It is likely that more videos from the tourist-friendly area will surface in the coming days.

ok I would have run so fast...as soon as they told me to evacuate I wouldn't even need a reason...I would just run...or walk very very fast.

That first video gave me goosebumps. As someone who was @ the WTC on 9/11, I know I don't want to see what I saw there ever, ever, ever again.

Funny how the bystanders want to argue with the police during an emergency.

If I were the police I would have cursed at them....seems like rational instructions were'nt working.

This is some scary stuff.

Wow. The cop in that first video was gitanic! They could have put him on the pathfinder to save everyone else while they dismantled the bomb.

What gets to me is how people are just milling about, turning around to take a look. It's almost like it's not real to them, or it's something they're watching on the tube, or on their laptops. If the thing had actually ignited, finally, it would have taken all these people out. Absolutely chilling to think about it. I like to think that I would have high-tailed it out of there. But maybe I would have sort of hung around too. I don't know....

I am sincerely perplexed. In a nation of 300,000,000 people, what is the point of trying to blow up a car and a score of people? Can anyone explain these guys rationale?

Yes, Mossad is running false flag operations trying to whip up fervor for an attack on Iran before our economy tanks and we are no longer useful to them.

laughing...........just a bunch of goofballs
07:51 AM on 05/04/2010
These people arent goofballs, thankfully they have been incompetent lately, but they are deadly serious. Without a little good luck, in the past few months we would have had a few hundred dead, or more depending on where the plane would have crashed, in Detroit, and scores dead in times square if this would have gone off. This is the face of radical Islam, not the mossad. Keep laughing, I'm sure any radical islamist would love for us not to take them seriously, would be much easier for them to kill us that way.

I wish we could come up with better terminology than "failed car bomb attack." If this is "failure," I'll take it over "success" any day and twice on Sunday.

And yes, I understand why it is technically a "failed" attack, it's just seems like a weird way to say it. Like any normal person would want it to "succeed"? Just seems like an unfortunate terminology to me.
03:19 AM on 05/04/2010
Well, the words "fail" and "success" have lots of connotations. You're just focusing on one set of them.
10:33 AM on 05/04/2010
It's the connotation that would matter to me in Times Square if I had been there. I'd hate to see "success"!

How about the "thwarted car bomb attack"?

Agree...It's an attack, just because nobody got killed doesn't change that...Why people want to downplay that because there's no blood and guts on the street, I don't get...It makes people take it lightly, if it had gone off, people would be on the level of alert they should be on but won't be on until someone else gets killed...We forget so fast...

Wow! The first video showing the effects of the initial explosion were amazing. My advice for the people of NY is grow a pair, and walk calmly towards the exits.

Malfunctioning exploding shoes, malfunctioning exploding underpants, malfunctioning fireworks in a car... do you guys ever get the feeling that the remaining terrorists are getting all their ideas from watching old Road Runner cartoons?

Or how about these are all staged terror attacks orchestrated by the intelligence community & govt, designed to fail (though the resulting push for more police state powers and more contracts for military and security corporations always succeeds). When the attacks do succeed and lives are lost, in dramatic fashion, they use them to push an entirely new paradigm...these guys like to preserve the shock aspect.

While I don't doubt that the "professionally paranoid" are going to milk events like this for all they're worth, if it was *your* job to stage a faux terrorist attack - do you really think you would have gone with "exploding underpants"?

Either way, I'm having trouble figuring out why we should be remotely afraid of whoever thought that idea was winner. :-)

or in draymond words" If it turns out that this is indeed an attack by Al-Qaida then it is another reminder of how fall they have declined. It used to be that their signature was organizational planning and the ability to carry out mulitple complex attacks simultanously. Their bombs went boom; not snap, crackle, pop.

Now they have underwear bombs that don't go off and car bombs that look like something out of Mythbusters except the ones in Mythbusters actually make cool explosions "

I am concerned and deeply saddened by all of the glib talk in this forum. 3 Butane tanks exploding would have killed hundreds if not thousands of Americans.

I am grateful that yet another attack on domestic soil has been thwarted. The only question is now, when is the next attempted attack and will it to go awry or will we be less fortunate?

3 propane tanks exploding would not kill hundreds or thousands or even dozens of people, unless they were in the van with it. Stop watching syfy saturday..

Seriously. Never attempt Doris Day parking when you intend to blow up Times Square......
I am surprised that the vendors took all of 2 minutes. Guess that won't be happening again any time soon. .

Who leaves ther keys in the ignition in NYC?

Wonder if these guys have shaved their heads?
Would you be taking cash for your car from strangers these days and not be getting some serious ID?
The silver lining in all this is NY will be able to keep its street vendors without a doubt. I hope that mounted police officer gave Bloomberg a few good reasons why over dinner. Like he'd need them at this point....
