Erik Martin, 13-Year-Old With Cancer, Is Superhero For A Day Thanks To Seattle Community

The Seattle chapter of the Make A Wish foundation makes hundreds of dreams come true for children struggling with cancer and other life-threatening diseases each year. For 13-year-old Erik Martin, however, making his wish come true was a community effort.

Martin wanted to be a superhero and dreamed of saving people as Electron Boy. Gimundo.com reports that Make A Wish volunteers, local police, even Seattle's professional soccer team joined together to plan an elaborate super hero adventure through the city streets.

The day started when Martin got a call from Spiderman, asking for his help to fight villains Dr. Dark and Blackout Boy, who had imprisoned the Seattle Sounders and planned to cut off the city's lights. Then, Martin's crime-fighting companions picked him up in a DeLorean and, along with 20 police officers on motorcycles, took Martin to Qwest Field, where he saved the trapped soccer players. Martin thought his adventure was over, as he posed for pictures with the Sounders -- but a message over the stadium's sound system gave him his next clue. Soon, Martin was off to save an imprisoned electrical company worker and slay his nemesis Dr. Dark, before freeing people trapped in an elevator in the Space Needle.

The Seattle Times reports Martin had few words, but he said quite clearly "This is the best day of my life."
