A 66-year-old golfer from New Zealand fell off a cliff while searching for his golf ball Tuesday afternoon, according to the New Zealand Herald. The paper reports that the victim fell 100 feet and sustained major injuries.
The man, who was playing alone, was not found until a staff member discovered his golf cart. A helicopter ambulance was able to land close by and stage a rescue operation.
"I felt really sorry for the guy," said a paramedic. "I mean, you go out to play golf, you don't expect this."
The golfer will reportedly undergo surgery on Thursday.
