Gulf Oil Spill: Palin Camp Says You Can't Trust Foreign Oil Companies [UPDATE]

First Posted: 07/05/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:25 PM ET

As much as I try to hew to what I call Weigel's First Constant -- which asserts that a diminished value should be placed on the social network statements that emerge from somewhere in the camp of sometime-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin -- this is just too bizarre not to mention.

See, as everyone knows, Palin is pretty much defined as the ultimate in "Drill, Baby, Drill". And she has so many thoughts on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and What It Means. Mostly, her thoughts evolves slowly, as she learns from other people what she is supposed to think about any given issue. But today, Sarah Inc. took to its Twitter account to offer some lessons about What The Gulf Oil Spill Teaches Us. Her bottom line: don't trust the foreign oils!

Gulf: learn from Alaska's lesson w/foreign oil co's: don't naively trust- VERIFY. Livelihood affected by spill?Don't sign away remedy rightsless than a minute ago via OpenBeak

Yes, it's obviously the fault of those devious Brits! Commence the racial profiling, right?

Of course, while it's based in Britain, BP is a massive, publicly-traded, multinational energy conglomerate, commonly referred to as a "supermajor". It's just one of three companies that are heavily involved with the Deepwater Horizon facility. The other two are Halliburton, an American company, and TransOcean. Spawned from a U.S. company called Sonat, TransOcean became what it is today after mergers with and acquisitions of various foreign entities. It's now headquartered in Switzerland.

Fun fact! I'm not sure that Palin knows this, but another "supermajor" is ExxonMobil, a United States company that I seem to recall has a rather complicated history with the state of Alaska for some reason.

UPDATE: Many thanks to an emailer named Ben, who reminds me that for eighteen long years, that dodgy, not-to-be-trusted foreign oil company known as British Petroleum employed one Todd Palin.

Anyone else notice that those BP commercials with all the flowers and songs about how clean BP is and how they're helping the environment are conveniently no longer on television? Wonder how long it will take them to fire up the propaganda machine after all this is done?

Yes...I've noticed that too. They would be idiots to spend money to play them now. I can't imagine their propaganda machine will ever be able to play the "same sweet tune" It can only really be a "hypocrisy machine" from here on out.

Yeah Sarah! I like my oil disasters to come from good Ole' Amerkan oil companies like Exxon Mobil! It should be Amerkan oil killing those all those fish and sea creatures, not some foreigner's oil! It should be Amerkan oil destroying the livelihoods of all those fisherman and shrimp haulers, not some fancy, high falooten, drinkin' hot tea in the middle of the freakin afternoon, English oil!!!!

It is always good to face constructive criticism on any issue to improve on the subject matter, but criticism to make it a election issue is wrong and condemnable, because of the fact that the issue was created by those who neglected their bounden responsibilities to the nation and thus contributed to creation of the national issue by some company deeply linked with evading the review of the regulatory system by lobbying during the previous years 8 years.

The political Observers are sanguine about some secret activists is interfering in the internal politics of US. They opined that this has made to solve national issue too difficult because of part interest. Obama government administration is sincere no doubt, but to work out on this particular secret activists in anti state activities with Political agenda must be looked into with more seriousness claims the Political Analysts.

If those who all criticizes could come up with the same in time about the long due regulatory system needed review before any oil drill contract is signed any where in the world could definitely save the catastrophe.

The investigation agency must probe into this regulatory matter thoroughly and find out why this long due review was not done previous authorities. The entire matter must be made public. Whatever be the outcome, to let the public know the truth and uncover the monstrous evil face of the people for whose fault and negligence the devastation took place opined the Political Analysts.

If there were some basic fundamental facts that we could all agree upon,
perhaps people like Sara Palin and her Tea Party parrots would simply fade away.
First off we need to address this FANTASY of “American” oil companies drilling
American oil as a means to energy independence.
The fact is that though a series of profit sharing agreements made a generation ago it is simply more profitable for Oil companies to process imported oil.
It is why this country EXPORTS oil.
What Sara and the other big oil mouthpieces always fail to mention is how they expect Exxon/Mobile or
Other MULTNATIONAL corporations to use American oil for the American market.
I don’t hear anyone suggesting that we nationalize the oil.
Hell, these corporations don’t even pay American tax on their profits, do we really expect them to be concerned about America’s independence?
You see this is the problem when dealing with the simplistic solutions offered by the Sara Palins of the world.
One can come to a consensus over a difference of opinion, but it is simply impossible to create a dialog with a difference of reality.

If an idiot remarks on Twitter and no one reports on it, does it make a noise? The only reason Palin has a voice is because the media keeps following her every move like a lovesick puppy. We need to ignore her. As of this moment, I shall never read another story about Palin or watch another new report about her. As far as I am concerned, there is no Palin. I hope others follow the same strategy.

How much did the McPalin 2008 campaign get from BP? How much did Obama get? The sudden Republican amnesia about their "Drill, Baby, Drill" platform can be easily explained ... the were promoting dental care reform.

How about you take some time to check your grammar. Your story, weighing in at a whopping 300 words, has several errors in it. No, I'm not a Teabagger taking a low blow, I'm just someone who would like to see the bar raised a little at huffpost.

True we cannot and should not believe foreign oil companies surely we can believe Dick Cheney's Halliburton can't we, that company is our own who recently shoved a real bamboo through the nations all available holes.

Most likely the Model Queen would give this company a gallantry award for creating an ecological catastrophe whereupon her Party Leaders were overjoyed and said Drill Baby!

The Political strategists opined that beauty cannot suggest solve oil spill catastrophes but it can any sex problems

Do not underestimate this woman, while everything she says seems like pure idiocy, her base eats it up like prime rib at a all-you-can-eat buffet. So they have their marching orders now, blame those "durn furiners"

Who did you think she would blame? Cheney's Halliburton?....

No word can define the low level of intelligence that Palin displays. She is a human cartoon
based on every self destructive weakness of humans.
