Givenchy Puts Transsexual Model In Fall Ad Campaign (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/07/2010 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 4:25 pm

Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci has cast a transsexual model in the fashion house's fall-winter ad campaign, WWD reports. Lea T., formerly known as Leo, is also Tisci's longtime personal assistant and former fit model.

Tisci said, "She's always been very feminine: superfragile, very aristocratic." He added that including a transgendered person in his campaign illustrates the "masculine-feminine dichotomy" he is now known for.

@cjk002

"Not all transgenders are like the ones you see on Jerry Springer, who go on the show to reveal to the person they have been dating that they have been deceiving them about their gender."

The last part of the above comment (deceiving them about their gender), is what I base my response on. If that is what you want to do with your life in this society, more power to you. The fact that one will go to such lengths in an attempt to be something that they never will be, is deceiving. My thing about it is, why does the rest of society need to know of such a personal issue?

please explain i am sure you didnt mean plus size models are trannys.

I'm fairly sure she was making a joke about how all the designers are starting to use plus-sized models. It's becoming "trendy". Now Givenchy's using a transexual model.

Thank you CreativeKitty for identifying Lea T. I think that was the weak point of the article. As to some of the other comments, yes why not models that are transsexuals and plus-sizes, and all colors and all shapes? Then they would (oh my gawd) look like a diverse group of people!

Gender is a bell curve. My prediction is as we relax about gender, we shall find the people out at the extreme of both ends of the curve are fewer in number than the people in the middle.
06:49 PM on 05/07/2010
Not to pick nits, but that's true by definition. There are always fewer at the ends of the curve.

Crappy "article" Huffpo. Would it kill you to indicate exactly WHICH model is being discussed? They ALL look like they could go either way. Just sayin'

This is what happens when androgyny, is seen as beauty.

Transgendered people have often been living gods in many cultures and throughout history. It's only when there's a lot of pressure for breeders that they are forced underground. Now that there are plenty of people walking the planet....? Expect less pressure to hide.

Androgyny causes superfluous commas?

Imprints on your psyche. What about our children? Is this the world you want them thinking exists? I'm sure these designers are also behind the torture campaign on women's feet.

What about them? News to me that it harms a child to photograph a person for being his/herself within the fashion industry. 'Sides, don't see too many tots attempting to choose between Hilights and Vogue from off the coffee table, only to settle for sinking their teeth into the latest celebrity gossip and makeup bargains. If they see it by accident, well then, gasp, must be social progress.

Ha, seriously. My 3-year-old son loves to dress as (be) a girl, but it's not because he's seen Givinchy ads, but because he's seen...girls!

Europe is much more advanced, period. But, in our defense, they have been around a lot longer.
