Will Ferrell Dazzles As "Rojo" Johnson, Mustachio'd Minor League Pitcher (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/07/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:25 PM ET

Will Ferrell's played some great characters over the years. But Billy Ray "Rojo" Johnson may be the best. Entering a minor league baseball game as a mysterious, mustachio'd relief pitcher, Ferrell delighted the crowd with his antics, downed a beer, and promptly fired in some chin music toward the batter. And for all you fans of baseball fights, he even threw in a tribute to Nolan Ryan's infamous Robin Ventura headlock.

Not much is known about "Rojo," though the announcers were able to shed a little light: he spent four years in the pen after dealing iguanas and other lizards. Let's just hope this isn't the last we see of him. (via Ben's Biz)

Hilarious. While I agree his characters do seem to be alike, they are still funny.

Hope this character is funnier than the race car driver, basketball player or figure skater.

Funny bit...still love Ferrell's Harry Carrey Jr.

Funny! Hey, all comics have a certain type of character. I can watch Charlie Chaplin's tramp character over and over, and that was used by him in many of his films.

I really like Will Farrell, but honestly, how is this character any different from his previous ones?

The description sounds like it could be just about any other "character" he's played, just placed in a different situation.

he is kinda like Jim Carry
Every movie they are in the character is exactly the same
talk about formula comedy

So "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Man in the Moon" are the same as "Mask"? What planet are you from?

So that's the test for a comedian now? That his comedic skills are greater than his audience? Really low standards.

Nonsense response. I agree with the poster.

What part of my statement claimed that that was the standard? I just said that the majority of critics on this thread are being overly critical...If its not your bag then its not, but comedy is subjective and for people to just label someone unfunny just because they don't like him/her is messed up.

Can we just not squabble, please? Those pheasants are just poor, dumb defenseless birds. But their babies are sure good eatin'.

I haven't seen any of Will's sports-themed comedies, but The Legend of Ron Burgundy [think that's what's it called] is very funny. Will's like having a funny gym coach.

Could have been funnier, but I love Ferrell. Anchorman had me laughing until I couldn't breathe. Who knows, I sense a Rojo movie coming.

Ferrell is funny 50% of the time, this is the 50%. LOL

Will Ferrell is terribly over-rated. Just like another SNL member, Adam Sandler. They both were amusing once, a long while back, but are now just plain boorish!

Agreed in general, but you have to admit, this was plain goofball funny.
