Alexa Ray Joel

people.com:

Alexa Ray Joel is famous for three reasons: her music, her parents (Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley), and regretfully, a battle with depression that landed her in the hospital after an overdose on Dec. 5.

"I felt like I was in a black hole and I couldn't see out," Joel, 24, reveals in the new issue of PEOPLE. "I hit rock bottom that day . . . A part of me wanted people close to me to know â€" not the whole world."

Billy Joel, Christine Brinkley and their daughter should all apologize for insulting us all with their lie that a "suicide" was attempted with a homeopathic medicine. Either they are super-daft or they think that everyone else is. It is strange that Billy and Christine would allow their daughter to misuse the media to create fears about something as safe as homeopathic medicine. Perhaps we should not feel badly when others spread misinformation about them in the media. There is a special place in hell for celebrities who abuse others just to get media attention. Jeeeez.

If you can't get famous because of your talent, then get famous for being tragic.

1. Fake Suicide Attempt, get press for it.

2. When all the papers have stopped reporting on your "Suicide Attempt" bring up a nose job to get your name in the papers.

3. When the papers have stopped reporting on your nose job, do an interview to "Discuss" your suicide attempt as this will get you an extra 4 days of press.

She looks like a blow up doll.

This is a sad picture. She is very young and just looking at the picture looks like she got a lot of work done to her face.

Sorry, she's famous because she overdosed, her dad is Billie Joel and she had plastic surgery on her nose, otherwise I had never heard of her. not that it's any of my business, but if you follow the link you can see how beautiful she was before she tried to love herself more by mutilating her nose.

Famous for her music? I think not!

Alexia has talent. If I were speaking to her I would say,Listen to your parents they will always lead you in the right direction. To Thine own self be true. Be comfortable in your own skin. You have talent and are a beautiful girl and seem to have a good heart. Be patient,Don't be your own worst critic. Put your music out there .I am eager to hear more from you. As far as Depression goes. There are more people out there that suffer from depression, but won't admit it . It is a tough and critical world we live in these days.

She is not famous for her "music". I've certainly never heard a note of it on the radio, and nobody I know has ever told me they were excited because they had tickets to any performance of hers.

She is "famous" because she has famous parents. Which is nothing to brag about, but I suppose it's better than being famous for a sex tape.

leave it up to the tabs to say that she overdosed due to a fight with her mom about her weight. and i'm glad she's open about her depression and anxiety - these affect a lot of people and it's important that people speak out so people know that they're not alone, that they are something you can deal with, and to reduce the stigma.

I hope she's OK. I can't imagine getting so depressed that suicide seems an option.

She should try this... Being depressed is bad enough, imagine being poor and depressed... There feel better? Try to look at the good things in your life...

She's famous for her music?

I said the same thing to myself!

And here I thought, oh, how pitiful and not up-to-date I am not to be aware of "her music". Yea, right.

Richard Cory

Edwin Arlington Robinson (1869–1935)

WHENEVER Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed, 5
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
“Good-morning,†and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich,—yes, richer than a king,—
And admirably schooled in every grace: 10
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night, 15
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Not that I expect much sympathy here for the wealthy, but this young woman was born into an isolation chamber of Fame and Wealth, and sometimes the isolation and even a normal depression are made very bitter by the sense that she shouldn't be feeling them, because she "was given everything at birth."

I reserve any snarky criticism for those who set themselves up as morally superior, like the Palin Clan, or fame-seekers. This girl had the greatness of her parents thrust upon her. And was unlucky enough to get his looks and her musical talent (at least as a comparison to dad's). I just wish she feels better and keeps sane.

"and even a normal depression are made very bitter by the sense that she shouldn't be feeling them." this is very true and very common; even us "common" people feel this way because there are so many people who are worse off.

For those who cared about reading the actual article, Didn't you find kind of interesting when Alexa talked about her mother (Christy) telling her "I wish I looked like you." Come on guys, this is so patronizing. I remember when one of my husband's nieces kept telling another niece (a younger cousin) "I wish I had your hair." The girl whose hair was the subject of such "compliment" was a girl with black/kinky hair and the girl making the "compliment" was a blonde, blue-eyed girl with mildly wavy hair who insisted in blow-drying it to make it staw-like straight. Didn't she LOOOVVVEEE curly/kinky hair so much? Give me a break ! ! ! When people make studpid comments like those, they do more harm than good. Normal people can see through that B.S.

P.S: Christy, love your daughter the way she is. Stop talking about looks, and please don't compare her to anybody else, you included.

Not everyone goes crazy for the blonde bland look, Christy's daughter is beautiful and exotic looking. I wish I looked like her and that's not being condescending.

"Not everyone goes crazy for the blonde bland look," a.k.a caucasian....Couldn't agree more. I happen to be one of those who simply does not find blonde people to be the ultimate. However, I admit that society is what it is, and people like Christie B. have the uperhand looks-wise. Do I want to look like Christie B? Hell, no. I'm really, really happy with my type, specially my hair color. Nonetheless, being Christie a woman who knows about leaving off one's looks, she knows that her daughter is not in her league. Of course Chirstie is not going to say it, but she knows it.

P.S: For me, the sexiest man/best looking ever, John F. Kennedy Jr. :-)

she probaby felt the need to address it because other people do; i mean come on, women and girls are already susceptible to low-self esteem and to compare themselves to models in magazines; when one's your mother and you're expected to take after her, it's only natural.

As a mother, I understand myself; however, I think Cristie should stay away from anything that has to do with her looks in reference to her daugther's. The girl is not dumb.

I send you deeply sympathetic prayers. I have come to understand that you don't necessarily "get over" depression, even with prescriptions and therapy. Take good care of yourself, Alexa and recognize that this can creep up on you again. Practice biofeedback. Pay attention to your feelings and when you realize that you are slipping, seek help immediately. Know always that you are worthy of life and of love. Go with God.

I have come to the same realization that you have. Well said.
