McCain Loses Two Top Campaign Staffers
1 of 37
Sen. John McCain's re-election bid lost its campaign manager and another veteran Republican official, part of a shake-up for the Arizona lawmaker locked in a tight primary race with radio host and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth.

The pair of GOP hands – who started before Hayworth entered the race – will instead work on the Republican National Committee's effort in Arizona. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers said neither Shiree Verdone nor Mike Hellon, a former Arizona GOP chairman, were fired.

"Senator McCain is very grateful for all that Shiree and Mike have done to launch the re-election campaign and establish it on a firm footing and looks forward to working closely with them for victory in November," Rogers said in a statement.

McCain, his party's 2008 presidential nominee, drew a Republican primary challenge that has forced him to the right. The one-time champion of a moderate, bipartisan approach to immigration now is running ads demanding Washington finish "the danged fence" he once mocked.

McCain, who is seeking a fifth term, also has dropped his maverick label.

Hayworth, who hopes to tap anti-incumbent sentiments, has campaigned against McCain as a Washington insider who is weak on illegal immigration. Arizona recently adopted one of the toughest immigration laws in the country that cracks down on illegal immigrants.

Rogers said there was no announcement for a replacement at the top of the campaign and added McCain's longtime circle of advisers would continue to shape the campaign.

What a pathetic, muttering, incompetent old f00l McCain has become. He's only the shell of the man he was just 10 years ago. At times, I almost want to feel sorry for him and his pathetic "say anything and lean in any direction to win at all costs" pandering behavior. He simply degrades himself only to earn votes. Then, I remember he was solely responsible for letting MooseMama loose on the rest of  Read More...

'I'm not in trouble ........' ranks right up there with:

'I have to rush back to DC to save the economy........'

'I know how to get OBL........'

and 'We vetted sarah thoroughly..........'

Admit it, John McPalin. You're a loser......

McCain, please go away. You will only be remembered for introducing this country to the idiot Palin, and stupid Joe the Plumber and the way they still pop up. Go home to your beautiful wife, don't know if she would like you home all the time, but the country wants you to go away. Adios.

John McCain was in trouble for years. He dug his grave when he choose Sarah Palin to be his running date - mate, whatever. He thought she would be his Viagra for the election, instead, she was his Prozac, his Lithium.

Now, John, we are still holding our breath waiting to hear from you in regards to the whereabouts of Bin Laden. We saw the news, we saw you say it, we were wondering if perhaps you can reiterate this in your campaign promise, you know, to save a few American soldiers perhaps, could ya tell the Army Brass at least how to get Bin Laden, share your secrets on that?

John McCain is a wash up, worn out, angry man whose story of being a prisoner of war is quite interesting and not at all one that is portrayed as one might think.

So John, help a few soldiers out so they don't come back in a metal box, Let someone know where Bin Laden is, you said you knew, you knew how to get him.

In your spare time, go through some of your past promises to the great folks in AZ. You remember Arizona - it's the one where one of your many houses are!

McCain use to be a moderate. He was the only Republican I could've seen myself ever voting for, but then he sold his soul to the Religious Right and the Neo-cons and campaigned alongside the biggest airhead ever to be on the national ballot. He deserves to go down in flames.

Arizonia finally took a step to protect it's citizens. The illegals in California are the main cause this state is bankrupt... straight-up, those are the facts. It's beyond politicts now. If someone kidnapped or killed one of your family members you also would have a different point of view. Get off your soap box and get real. Illegals are criminals and everyone have to show ID when asked if it's appropriate. Everything else is BS.

Seems to me that the criminals who cost us the most money over the last two years were wearing white shirts and ties. And, they didn't have to try and get over a 17 ft. fence to get to work every day. After they perpetrated one of the most irresponsible financial crises in history, we didn't arrest them, we rewarded them by bailing them out! I'm certainly not going to complain about people who take enormous risks to get into this country, would like to become citizens, and are usually seen doing actual work. Amazing how we so easily lose focus of the real issue, the one that has crippled this country, and would rather focus on racist issues.

He completely ignored the polls in 2008 and thought he had a chance of winning. He needs to pay better attention.
