I'm with Jake.....I wish. Ostriches can sprint up to 43 miles (70 kilometers) an hour and run over distance at 31 miles (50 kilometers) an hour. An ostrich's powerful, long legs can cover 10 to 16 feet (3 to 5 meters) in a single stride. These legs can also be formidable weapons. Ostrich kicks can kill a human or a potential predator like a lion. Each two-toed foot has a long, sharp claw.

During a trip to Africa, the group went to an ostrich farm. I was standing by the fence so my friend could take a picture. The ostrich came up behind me and beaked me in the head. The bill of my ball cap was the only thing that protected be from being injured. The attendant warned that they can be territorial and mean. I was close to giving up my vegetarianism that day cause sure enough they served ostrich at the restaurant we ate dinner at that night.

How insulting to you.....serving ostrich for dinner. Too funny. While on a trip to Bolivia I tried Llama. After that my friends would ask me.....is llama bad? Funny.

He looks good, but I think the roided body is a bit scarey. But hey, I guess if he doesn't make a life time of it, then good for him.

I would gladly protect Jake from those feathered fiends (they're not really fiends, but, hey, whatever it takes)... ;)

Dude, I'm with Jake. I've been up close and personal Ostriche's and emu's and these are some big, powerful and evil bird, I'm here to tell you. They are lightening fast and they always look at you like they want to peck out your eyes and snack on them.

Ostriches have such a powerful kick that there's documented cases of them killing lions.

Shhhhhhsshhhhh.....I'm countin' the abs on his, ah, stomach. Requires lots of concentration. How did he get this mighty, might fine. (note: not a question :))))

Perfectly logical. They can deliver a very powerful kick and they're not known for their sunny disposition.

I'm afraid Jake and Tobey MacGuire will one day marry each other and love the fact they can look at each other and make out with themselves essentially.

Is he afraid of big bird too? Only kidding, however why is this on HP?
06:50 PM on 05/10/2010
I can understand. I'm irrationally afraid of snails and slugs.
10:30 PM on 05/10/2010
*grins* There'd better be an open door if I ever see one of those large black spiders, or else I'll do a Scooby-Doo and make an opening. I'm telling you, they're eeeeville.

:) it's weird....my older sister never understood my fear of snails and slugs but she is also deathly afraid of spiders and would always enlist me to deal with them when we were kids.

x2, EP...we have here, in our locale, what they call 'tree spiders' - usually bigger than silver dollars, and apt to drop down onto your shoulders from the limbs above...ugh, ugh, ugh! *runs in circles* ;)
