Paul Allen's Tatoosh PHOTOS: Microsoft Co-Founder's Mega Yacht Goes On Sale (PICTURES)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 05/11/10 10:21 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:25 PM ET

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is putting his 300-foot luxury yacht, the Tatoosh, up for sale.

The yacht--yours for 125,000,000 GBP or around $162,113,000--is on sale at Fraser Yachts in Florida.

It is the 26th-largest superyacht in the world, and was reportedly purchased by Allen in 2001 for $100 million.

According to the description on the Fraser Yachts website, the Tatoosh includes a total of ten bedrooms--an "owner's stateroom" and nine guest staterooms--in addition to two staff cabins, a swimming pool, and two helicopter decks.

The sale of the Tatoosh will leave Allen with just one yacht: the 416-foot Octopus, which he has owned since 2003.

See photos of the Tatoosh below and read about Allen's yachting trip to Israel here

I've seen both of these floating palaces, they are obscene expressions of personal consumption gone amok.

A little small for my tastes.
I personally can't lay out and get comfortable in another smaller than 400ft. :)

Don't get me wrong, I have a pretty large home by most people's standards but this is ridiculous.
It is like a 30,000 sq.ft home. Unless you have 10 kids, both sets of in laws and a staff of 5 or more living with you, it is just an exercise of ego.
I spend most of my time in the kitchen, office, living room and bedroom, that is it and I suspect he and most other people do also.

He does have some pretty high doctors bills right now... You know how many chickens he can buy for $161,113,000?

162 million, not 161

Sorry, I meant net worth, and even if you figure a slightly higher one than 60k, the concept still holds. And let's not work it out for those many in the US who have a negative net worth...

People here are saying vul.gar and conspicuous consumption, etc. I'm with you on frugal living, believe me, but to put it into perspective vis a vis Ballmer's net worth of 14 Billion:

Dividing, Tatoosh, at 100 million is a 140th of his net worth.
Dividing the average US salary of say 60,000 by 140 = 428 dollars.
When we buy a car for 20,000 (pretty cheap these days), our net worth should be 2.8 million to make it as inconsequential as Ballmer buying another 100 mill yacht.

So, he's actually living far below his means, while we are actually living far above ours. (Unless your last car cost 428 dollars! :) LOL!

So with my revised calculation, using a US median net worth of 93k, that 100 mill yacht to Ballmer equals around 664 dollars to the average US citizen. Taking the MEAN net worth (factoring in people like ballmer too, which skews it very much upward) of 450k net worth, the figure is still a lowly 3200.00 USD.

Oh please. I hope you make the same ridiculous calculations when one of these rich spoiled people give away $1million dollars. Compare that to my giving $5000-$6000 away a year - I'm giving away 10% while that million is a half percent...

Sure, why not? It's just as much of an honest assessment as mine.

"Dang Honey, don't buy anymore Cristal, lets get one of those screw top brands now…"

What do you need more than one yacht for anyway?

Its ok, he's owned this one for awhile and still has two more. The bigger one is named "Octopus", which strikes me as a fitting name somehow for an owner of Microsoft...
