Egg Donation: More Money For Blondes? (VIDEO)

For women, egg donation may be very well be the next get rich quick scheme. That is, if you're genetically well-endowed. Women possessing "favorable attributes" such as good looks or intelligence stand to make a killing in the fertilization game, ABC News reports.

One Florida woman, Sarah Gwaltney, made as much as $100,000 in two years through six separate egg donations. Gwaltney, a former model, spoke positively of the experience, saying "having some income was very helpful for me at that time in my life." In fact, she even plans on eventually opening her own donor agency.

However, trait-based egg donations have left some health organizations worried about discriminatory practices. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine has claimed that compensation over $10,000 is not appropriate, adding that women shouldn't be paid more based on their looks or intelligence.

The issue has sparked a backlash from parents of children who came from donor eggs, who argue they should have a say in choosing their baby's phenotype. As it stands, the ASRM does not have the authority to crack down on excessive prices for egg donations.
