BlackBerry Tablet Release Could Come Later This Year, Says Source

BlackBerry Tablet

Research In Motion looks to be expanding beyond smartphones, according to new information obtained from "multiple sources" by Boy Genius Report.

The BlackBerry tablet will reportedly be a "companion device"--a la Palm Foleo, the dud of a device that was that was canceled even before it shipped.

The tablet, measuring around 8.9 inches, will lack its own cellular connection, and instead will rely on connecting to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth or built-in Wi-Fi. It is intended for multimedia functions, like emailing, browsing the web, reading ebooks, and viewing photos.

The launch is "slated for December, but the team working on the project is trying to get it out to the marketplace sooner than that," writes Boy Genius Report, which adds that RIM insiders have "privately voiced their frustration to us regarding this initiative."
