'The Fence' Questions Consequences Of U.S.-Mexico Border Wall Endorsed By John McCain

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was clear in his campaign ad last week: "Complete the danged fence," he told an Arizona sheriff, who appeared with him in the immigration-themed ad.

The fence that McCain was referring to is actually a series of barriers along the U.S.-Mexican border that were approved by congress in 2006. It's also the subject of Rory Kennedy's short film "The Fence (La Barda)."

Kennedy's film, shot well before Arizona's new immigration law or McCain's new ad, calls into question the effectiveness and the unintended consequences of the $3 billion fence.

While many argue that the border must be sealed to protect the nation from terror attacks, Kennedy points out that none of the terror attacks in the last 25 years have ever been perpetrated by people who entered the U.S. from the Mexican border.

McCain's immigration ad did not highlight his past aggressive advocacy for providing a path to citizenship for immigrants. The ad also failed to mention that the sheriff who appears at McCain's side does not work along the fence, as it would seem to suggest, but rather 115 miles away, in central Arizona.

McCain is facing J.D. Hayworth in the Republican primary for the Senate seat that he has held since 1987.

HBO will air "The Fence" later this fall. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

With the fence in it's present condition, it is virutally useless. Mexican citizens just find an opening or the end of it and into the US they come! Completing it might help slow illegal immigration, I don't know.
It is true no terror attacks have come from Mexico. But we have a quarter of a million Mexican citizens coming into America every month illegally.
Some might believe me anti-immigrant. I am actually very pro-immigrant...the legal kind.
But I can be vituperous about illegal immigrants who think our laws don't matter or apply to them. I don't care what color they are. If they don't respect our laws keep out. Becoming a citizen is a long hard path many are willing to tread for that goal.
Life may be difficult in Mexico, but it's not the USA's responsibility to take care of all of another countries poor. We can't afford to the 36% of the Mexican population that wants to move to America at will. We have an estimated 12 million here already.
According to the CBO, they use more resources than they pay in taxes. With minimum wage jobs they have, most times they get a tax refund, often Earned Income Credit. Many recieve unemployment, costing states even more in an economy where jobs are scarce. The Fence is not a silly idea. Just one that needs to be finished.
Why should we have an open border with Mexico?

#1: It will take months for agents to process all these cases. There is not enough detention space or immigration courts to handle so many cases at once.

#2: You would have to be released within the US with a notice to appear. These NTA’s are valid immigration documents until your cases are adjudicated.

#3: It would take years to hear all of these cases. Meanwhile, although you won't be authorized to work, you would reside lawfully in the US until your cases were heard.

Americans who could care less about the law will continue to hire you just like they always have.

Don't cooperate with the Mexican or US Government's tacit agreement to dehumanize you and “keep you in the shadows”.

Unite peacefully and call their bluff!

Can't see ICE being overwhelmed for space and in the past they just appoint more judges.

At the State level it could actually save the State money.

Tent City Prison gives us lots of detention space and tents cities are cheap to build.
Not sure what it is now but in 2003 they got the cost of meals down to 40 cents a day.
Legality of it went through the courts in the 90's and we still have it.

Same-same with chain gangs which in AZ which are not restricted to male prisoners.
With the State's budget problems there is LOTS of work to do around the cities.

We do this to Citizen-Criminals in AZ.
Illegals won't get any preferential treatment.

I'll skip this 'fence' video. Either we enforce our borders evenly, or we fling them open and forget about limiting government programs. Selectively leaving it open brings no benefit, but makes good PR and that means money. The Kennedy family knows very well the upsides as well as the limits of this medium.

In recent Testimony of District Attorney John M. Morganelli before the House Subcommittee on immigration, Border, Security and Claims he stated:

"Unfortunately, the majority of illegal aliens who are here are engaged in criminal activity. Identity theft, use of fraudulent social security numbers and green cards, tax evasion, driving without licenses represent some of the crimes that are engaged in by the majority of illegal aliens on a daily basis merely to maintain and hide their illegal status.

Ignoring the "minor crime" such as ID theft and property crimes being committed by illegal aliens, here is a summary on some of the collateral damage reaped in crimes as a result of tolerating illegal aliens in the USA:

•In Los Angeles, 95% of some 1,500 outstanding warrants for homicides are for illegal aliens. About 67% of the 17,000 outstanding fugitive felony warrants are for illegal aliens.

Note the last two points – the perpetrators were once “previously deported.” Regardless, ALL those crimes would have never happened, i.e. were preventable, with serious deportation of the illegal aliens already here and proper border security to prevent both entry and re-entry.

In reviewing those numbers, note that the study only sampled about 21% of the incarcerated illegal aliens. To get the full extent of the collateral damage, we need to extrapolate the average number of 13 criminal offenses arrested for across all 267,000 incarcerated illegal alien criminals. Doing so results in some 3,471,000 crimes! While noteworthy all by itself, note that that would be just the crimes arrested for. How many additional criminal offenses they committed but were not arrested for is unknown.

Don’t the MSM and illegal alien supporters continually tell us that illegal immigration is a “victimless crime” and that they are only here to do the work Americans don’t want to do? Since each crime has a victim, 3,471,000 sounds like a lot of victimization to me. Maybe they are also referring to doing the “work” that American criminals don’t want to do. Also keep in mind that the 3,471,000 crimes are only the ones committed by the hard core illegal alien criminals that were finally caught and incarcerated.
