First Posted: 05/19/2010 6:56 pm   Updated: 05/25/2011 4:30 pm

Oh no! Chief of Protocol of the United States Capricia Penavic Marshall slipped on the steps of the North Portico of the White House before the arrival of Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife Margarita Zavala to the State Dinner. President Obama cautioned photographers "Don't take that picture" and Michelle Obama added "Don't print that picture!"

Sorry, Mr. President.

One word to the wise: At a public event, wear shoes that do not imperil you. I noticed she was wearing very high heels - this is a working night for her, so she probably had to do a lot of walking around - wear sensible shoes - there really are cute ones out there!!

Great dress! But I could never walk in those heels!

This may seem horrible now but in a week or so she will be laughing at the incident.

She slipped. She fell. Hope she wasn't hurt.

Why is this a story?

There's nothing more dangerous than the illusion of perfection. It drives a lot of cover-ups a lot less innocent than this one.

Hey Capricia - is your butt sore today? The first lady looks horrified by your slip up. Who could blame her. Next time wear Nikes.

That was OK. It's a good thing in her haste to recover she didn't trip again. That would have been comical.

women should understand if you work in heels on marble walkwalks..get special grips on all of your fancy heels. Else you will find yourself on your bottom..more than once.

I'm surprised none of those warriors are helping her up.

They can't. That would be against their orders. There were plenty of other people there and Obama seems ready to step out and help, classy gentleman that he is.

She got up quickly. I noticed that Obama was stepping her way, presumably to help her back up but she took care of that problem nicely. Nice recovery.

I think Ambassador Marshall handled herself with grace and class. Everyone has their slips like this, and she quickly recovers with a smile on her face, even adding a bit of humor to the situation. I was lucky enough to work alongside the Chief of Protocol last week when she visited Chicago during the U.S. State Department's "Experience America" program and she is truly a remarkable woman. Her dedication to diplomacy and building strong relationships with our global leaders truly showed and her delightful energy radiated at all times. I applaud her for how she handled this situation at the State Dinner, as well as everything she is doing for our country.

Great recovery. Before the President could take the second step in her direction, she was up and dusting off.

Yes she looked terrific, and her husband wasn't that shabby himself.
