'Today' Show Defends Matt Lauer: He's Not A Cheater

NBC's "Today" show has issued a statement denying the National Enquirer's allegations that co-host Matt Lauer cheated on his wife and implying that he cheated with his "Today" show co-hosts.

"The allegations surrounding Matt Lauer are completely inaccurate and unfounded," the statement said. "These accusations are reckless and harmful to the Lauer family. Equally reckless, irresponsible and inaccurate are the accusations about his 'Today' show colleagues. Matt and his wife have spoken out on this on the record and will not be discussing it further."

Lauer and wife Annette Roque made last week's Enquirer cover with a report that he had moved out of the family apartment after she accused him of cheating during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

They forcefully denied that report and dismissed it claim-by-claim...and now the Enquirer has gone back to the story for another cover this week.

"MATT LAUER'S 'OTHER WOMEN'" screams the cover, which includes a photo of "Today" show 9AM anchor Natalie Morales.

The excerpt of the article posted online does not mention Morales or any other "Today" show talent, but it does repeat the Enquirer's claim that Lauer is not living in his apartment with his wife and children:

We can reveal that our reporters have staked out the apartment in the early morning hours and we haven't seen Matt exit the place like he did in the past when he was living there.

However, Matt shows up at the Today studios like usual - meaning that he's coming from another location other than the family apartment where Annette lives with their three kids.

Last week, Lauer described the Enquirer report as "ridiculous," "offensive," and "a work of fiction."
