Vito Fossella, Disgraced Ex-Congressman, Endorsed By Staten Island GOP

GOP NOMINATES Disgraced Ex-Congressman For Old Job

Disgraced ex-congressman Vito Fossella was gifted with a second chance last night.

In a surprise move, the Staten Island Republican Party nominated Fossella for his old congressional seat.

Fossella's political career was seemingly dead when a 2008 DWI arrest ultimately revealed that he had a secret second family in Virginia.

According to the Staten Island Advance, the committee voted overwhelmingly to endorse Fossella 23-4 over the two other candidates, Michael Allegretti and Michael Grimm.

While party chairman John Friscia claimed, "It is my firm belief that [Fossella] is the strongest candidate we can field," others were not so convinced.

Guy Molinari, Fossella's former mentor and now an advisor to Grimm, said, "I think the status of the Republican Party on Staten Island has reached a new low tonight."

Fossella has previously denied he is running for office again, but after this nomination, who knows?
