Washington University Receives $60 Million Gift

Washington University in St. Louis has been given one of the largest gifts in its history, The Chronicle of Higher Education reports.

The gift, from aerospace engineer and former chair of the McDonnell Douglas Corporation John F. McDonnell and the JSM Charitable Trust, puts $48 million into an unrestricted university fund.

The remaining money will go to an international scholarship program.

McDonnell is a trustee of the university. He also serves on Boeing's board of directors. Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997
