Wash U Grads Break Massage-Chain World Record

The members of Washington University's class of 2010 can now add another accomplishment to their resumes -- they've helped blast the world record for the longest massage chain.

On May 16, 710 graduating students gave each other massages on campus. The previous record was set in Nova Scotia with 617 people.

Student Life has more on the chain:

The Senior Class Council organized the event in an effort to unite the senior class for a final, lighthearted accomplishment. "We thought breaking a world record would be a fun and interactive way to bring everyone together," Senior Class President Fernando Cutz said.

Guinness requires that the massage chain last for 3 minutes, and Cutz counted down the minutes with a megaphone. A Guinness photographer was on hand to document the massage, and 15 independent community members served as judges.

School Chancellor Mark Wright, a chain participant, was impressed with students' initiative to break the record. "I think this has been one of the more organized, more enthusiastic classes in terms of school spirit, and it's been fabulous to see that enthusiasm at our University," he told Student Life.
