Well we say "no more." With no particular offense meant to anyone's banana bread recipe, we believe the humble banana is in fact as versatile as bacon or eggs, and we've got the internets to prove it.

I never understood why people would spend money on bananas. By the time you skin one and get rid of that big, soft bone, there isn't a lot left to eat.

My niece was just visiting--with gluten & dairy restrictions--and had some desserts just for herself to pop in the freezer. Peel and halve bananas, stick a popsicle stick in one end of each and toss in the freezer for a while. Melt some chocolate or similar candy coating (hers was cocoa-based, sugar free), dip the banana halfs, then freeze until coating is solid. Then you can wrap them individually and keep frozen for anyone--kids love them!!

Many of those recipes look like they use light bananas, in other words, like we would eat them, before they browned(exterior) and softened(interior).

what's wrong with banana bread, anyway? LOL.... that is how I handle my 2-3 that eventually go brown, after buying 15 or so(I eat 12-15 bananas a week. Cavendish). Of course, hopefully I have timed purchases to consumption and have none left for banana bread.

now fried plantains with coconut and brown sugar, a whole 'nother Oprah.

Agree. I actually get stoked when I see we have some bananas going bad because it gives me an excuse to make banana bread.

Gah, what on earth is one "stick" of butter!? I see it all the time in US recipes and have no idea how I can even begin to try to convert that to grams

In the US, butter typically comes in an package with 4 "sticks" that are about 115g each.

As he could have learned all by himself had he spent 13 seconds looking it up (I timed it). His point was not to ask a question but to preen. Provincialism is not sophistication, nor is it a vice only when practiced by Americans.

Thanks for the clarification! I use American recipes a lot and since I spent two years in the U.S., I do remember the size of those sticks of butter and just use half a package of German here in Germany. That would be about 125grams and recipes have always worked with that amount. Then again, I am quite a fan of the "Pi times thumb" method when it comes to measuring ingredients :)

Most people eat their bananas before they are ripe.

A ripe Cavendish will be yellow with black spots starting to appear.
