Our Vanishing Glaciers (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

The recent loss of two more glaciers from Glacier National Park and the glacier-induced tsunami in Peru remind us that many of our world's glaciers are fast-retreating, redefining what it means for something to move at a glacial pace. According to researchers in the U.S. and Europe, more than 90 percent of glaciers worldwide are in retreat, with major losses already apparent in Alaska, the Alps, the Andes and many other ranges. Moreover, it's all happening at an accelerated pace across the board. Glacial retreat is not only one of the most obvious signs of climate change, it also takes a toll on the local environment, global economies, and plays a huge role in rising sea levels, not to mention the loss of one of nature's greatest beauties.
