Phil Hirsch, Ohio Man, Wins Supermarket Shopping Spree And Donates To Food Bank

After making a donation to Youngstown State University's annual United Way fundraiser, Phil Hirsch, an administrator at the university, won a supermarket shopping spree. Hirsch was selected out of over 2,000 donors who contributed to the fundraiser.

WYTV in Ohio reports that Hirsch used the shopping spree to donate food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley, a local food bank affiliated with the national nonprofit Feeding America.

Hirsch said of donating the food:

"It just seemed like the natural thing to do. They can make good use of it."

Hirsch had three minutes to run through a local Save-a-Lot store, pulling rice, pasta, canned goods and more into shopping carts. Altogether, Hirsch collected almost $850 worth of food.
