Venus Williams' Outfit Returns! French Open 'Corset' Is BACK (PICTURES)

First Posted: 05/26/10 12:55 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:35 PM ET

Venus Williams raised a few eyebrows Sunday when she wore a skimpy, corset-like outfit to her French Open match.

Several days later, she did it again. The elder Williams sister wore the same revealing garment -- and ended up with the same result, another victory, this time against Arantxa Parra Santonja.

Afterwards, Williams was asked seven questions about her surprising choice of clothing. "Lace has never been done before in tennis, and I've been wanting to do it for a long time," she said at a press conference. "The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely for me a lot more beautiful."

Scroll down for new photos of her playing in the high-profile outfit.

Quick Poll

My hunch is that Venus was going for a variation on the iconic French Can-Can dancer, but it certainly back fired. No pun intended. Just exactly what was she thinking! Bad call!

There is nothing like free advertising and she is getting plenty! I think this shows how intelligent she is, she knows she can't play tennis forever and she already has at least one player wearing her designs, besides of course herself. So she is thinking of the future and I have no problem with that. She is a strong and beautiful woman who almost singlehandedly changed the game of tennis for women, she did have help from Serena but women tennis players are getting stronger and I think that is a good thing. The only thing I would change about the outfit is the color of her shorts.

It's funny that she lost--maybe she should have focused more on her game and less on trying to look like a hooooker on the court. Respect the sport; it's not a joke and it's not a fashion runway.
And that goes for the lady grunters, and anyone who wants to dress as though she were at the beach. It's a serious athletic competition, not Mardi Gras, not Halloween.

Not a fan of the game, huh?

In 5 letters.Cheap.

It's quite amusing to realise that wealth, success and fame don't automatically
broaden one's good taste and common sense.

What she was thinking? Is there anyone in her entourage to tell her "hell,no"?

Lets face it, she is not exactly Naomi Kambel. She is a great athlete and a tough character that calls her own shots. This shot she sure missed.

Yes, her outfit may be a little over the top, but once I knew she had on shorts, I thought it was funny. If she had a flat butt, it probably wouldn't be an issue. As someone said below, gymnastic costumes are more risque because they are cut so high between the legs and the positions they are photographed in are way worse than these pictures here. Also, no one remembers what the other players wore.

When Venus and Serena first came on the scene crushing everyone in sight, they didn't get the million dollar endorsements, they went to less superior players. The Williams sisters were not front cover girls for endorsements. So now they don't need them and they don't have to wear them. They wear their own designs and they let it fly is the face of the haters. I bet all the complainers are women. I believe the men are loving it. Go Williams Sisters! Do your own thang!

For CS!!!!! she is wearing shorts the same color of her skin tone under the thing...go get reading glasses all you folks who are being critical!!!!
Go Venus!!!

so i thought, but one of the photos clearly shows a black thong visible underneath, which means the shorts are transparent. they are like stockings, apparently.
but anyway she's free to wear what she likes. it looks ok. she's been playing tennis for so long, she's probably bored out of her head.

I read that the thong was printed on, and that she did it for shock value. I think that the traditional tennis outfits are probably less distracting from the game. However, the Williams sisters are remarkable tennis player, and they are not always getting a fair share of publicity, for whatever reason. So, if they are ticky tacky as I call their style, it is alright. They are true trailblazer and I take my hat off to them for their accomplishments in sports and their pretty drama less life.

I will like to see the Tennis Committee setting up boundaries on tennis apparel. The Williams seem to believe they can create a style, but it is far from suitable. I am glad she as no more chances to ridicule herself and show no respect to the sports and its enthusiasts

The William sisters have shown a lot of respect to the sport, do not confuse their style with their sense of sportsmanship. These little blond blue eyed tennis player get away with much more, funny isn't it, when it comes to these two outstanding sisters, there is no slack.

I am not making comments about their performance. It is pretty obvious they were grommed to do this in life. Seven times Grand Slam tittle winner; and they were ranked in 2002 number 1 & 2 players in the tennis association. That says it all.

I sense a bit a racism in your comment, blonde and blue eyes or stunning black skin, it is not a matter in here. I don't want to see my tennis players with Chandelier diamond earrings and brothel outfits running around the tennis courts in FRANCE or elsewhere representing my country.

There is a place for everything; they probably need a better agent. You seem to be concern about their unfair publicity. Without any racist comment from my part I will add "you can take the monkey out of the jungle, but it is difficult to take the jungle out of the monkey." A better agent for both of them :) !

Why is the media focused on Venus' outfit and not her big wins? Perhaps they're jealous of her beautiful black body and big green bank account(s)!

Yep!! Both Williams sisters are great, and who cares if they have great taste in clothes.

No Class? WTV! The whole rich country club culture of Tennis in the US is killing it. Our most successful tennis players are the Williams Sisters (out of both men and women). There should be more recruitment in poorer white, black, latino and asian communities. Tennis is a tough SPORT not a statement of class or beauty. Countries that realize that find much better athletes (ex. Spain). And about the dress... it's actually not that bad when watching her play. These pictures are magnified and by far the most provocative I have seen.

The fact that she does not understand how inappropriate her outfit is makes me wonder about her so called intelligence level. The world is looking at her bare behind. I don't care what she says it is totally wrong on the tennis court. I hope she gets fined.
12:17 AM on 05/30/2010
No - the world is not looking at her bare behind. She's wearing pants that cover more than the average tennis pants do - they're just brown like her skin.

I assume that you rail against the outfits that gymnasts wear as well. Somehow, watching a nearly naked 16 year old girl do splits is less offensive to you than a grown woman kicking a** while playing tennis in an outfit that is the same color as her skin.

True, but half naked white girls or women are ok. They are free, black girls and women must cover up, no one wants to see that.

Real talk from a real man

the outfit did not bother me. It was the thong that was inappropriate. Children attend these matches. it showed a real lack of class.

Thong? In the pictures that I have seen, she was wearing brown colored granny panties.

yeah right. Better not take them downtown or to the mall, because you will see worse than that. Also, be sure to keep the TV remote away from the kids. Last I heard they even have same sex couples kissing on prime time now.
07:04 PM on 05/29/2010
That's embarrassing!

What a shame. And, I always thought Venus had a touch more class than her sister Serena.
05:57 PM on 05/29/2010
Just because people have money - does not mean they have class.

I'm sorry - great tennis player, but horribly unattractive. This is such a desperate bid for attention to her looks. Unfortunately, its an EPIC fail.

She's in Paris! The French show naked women on tv commercials, so if Venus could pull that outfit off anywhere, it would be at the French Open. Americans can be so prude! I say she should wear whatever the hell she wants to wear (or not wear).
07:03 PM on 05/29/2010
Agree. I think my feeling is - she's a A-one tennis player, but she's pretty far down the scale re looks. Her desperate attempts for attention via the clothing just makes her look ridiculous to me.

She's a good tennis player, but I don't find her very attractive, so the lace corset doesn't work for me. Maybe it would on someone else.
