Obama, Clinton Drool Over Soccer Team's Shoes (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 05/27/10 04:35 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:35 PM ET

UPDATE: The shoes are the Caper cap toe oxfords by Cole Haan.

President Obama, Vice President Biden and Bill Clinton got to meet the U.S. World Cup Soccer Team at the White House this morning and all the trio could talk about was how dapper the players looked! From the pool report:

"I want to be on this team just for the shoes," Clinton said, marveling at the light brown numbers worn by the players and coaches, decked in white and blue warm-ups and tan dress slacks. "This is the only team that I've ever seen that had these cool shoes."

And:

"This is the best dressed soccer team I've ever seen," POTUS said, agreeing, "those are some sharp shoes."

they look ridiculous in warm up jackets and dockers. the brown shoes just add to a confusing
theme. in fact, let's just agree that their home jersey's look like they need a bedazzled scissors to cut that sash.

suits, please. the away jerseys are definitely reasonable, but it'd be nice if the look
was more consistent with the something like the look of similar teams.

I agree whole heartedly that the team should be in suits. Moreover, the team needs a tailor to hem everyone's pants with the appropriate break.

I wonder how much Clinton got paid by Nike for this?
03:11 PM on 05/29/2010
Cole Haan is a company owned by Nike. Nike is the official sponsor of the US National team. The boys were Cole Hann because their sponsor (i.e. Nike) is responsible for their outfit.

Cole Haan??
If they're going to be on the world stage, couldn't we put them in something better??

Cole Haan is pretty nice. I, for one, am a huge fan of Cole Haan purses and shoes. Very good quality.

Moderately priced? I don't think Cole Haan is considered moderately priced. They are under $500, but I don't think thay most people would consider them moderately priced.

Charcoal or Light Grey would be much better, brown just doesn't cut it at least in this case.

Those shoes are fugly

Those shoes run about $300, so, pretty expensive for most of us. And I'm still not convinced they're the caper. There's a better photo of the caper here, plus... NOT good reaction from Dappered.com users about the rest of their getups. C'mon guys, put on a suit like England: http://dappered.com/2010/05/u-s-soccer-and-the-white-house-gotta-be-the-shoes/

I have never seen a pair ugly shoes that Cole Haan makes, they are nice and expensive shoes I put my husband in them and they last forever.

I guess those are the shoes, although it is hard to see that they are cap toes from looking at the enlarged photo. I shoes look interesting, but i am not really a big Cole Haan fan. They use to be a decent company, but have gone downhill quite a bit. Since these shoes are almost 300 bucks, i guess there is a chance they are made in Italy and not China. All we have to pick from in the US Alden and Allen Edmonds, which forces me to buy shoes from the UK.
