The Obama family arrived in Chicago Thursday evening and will spend Memorial Day weekend in their Kenwood home.

First lady Michelle Obama, daughters Malia and Sasha, Obama's mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, and family dog Bo accompanied the president, who headed to the Gulf Coast Friday morning to address the BP oil spill.

Obama left his South Side home by motorcade Friday morning and went to Soldier Field, where he hopped on a helicopter in the parking lot for the short flight to O'Hare International Airport, where Air Force One was waiting, the Chicago Tribune reports.

While some are speculating about what the first family will do while in town, the only public appearance scheduled so far is a Memorial Day trip to the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, about 50 miles southwest of Chicago, where the president will honor veterans.

Several local media outlets report that the Obama family may attend the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup opener Saturday night or check out a performance of "The Good Negro," a play about civil rights leadership in the 1960s, at the Goodman Theatre.
