Al & Tipper Gore PDA: Kisses, Embraces & Other Memorable Moments (VIDEO, PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 06/01/10 03:17 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

Before the Obamas, there were the Gores: when it comes to politics and public displays of affection, Al and Tipper were the trailblazers. Known for their romantic embraces and passionate kisses--and one especially blush-inducing embrace at the 2000 Democratic Convention--the Gores weren't known for their romantic restraint. So as the couple announces their separation after 40 years of marriage, here's a look back at happier times.

Well the best 'cure' for a big divorce is lots and lots of beer!

All I know is I wish Gore had been president instead of the stinking rats that took his place.

Sad. It takes a long time to get used to living without the person you married--even if you ended up being miserable, there was a reason you fell in love and thought you could spend the rest of your life with this person. Many heartaches in store for both the Gores.

I simply don't understand where they think they're going after 40 years of marriage. Seems senseless to me, what with that new gargantuan house: they could roam around in there for days and never run into each other, if needs be.

Obviously that house was built for an extended family...not just Al and Tipper, but their children and grandchildren. Oh well...."no one knows what goes on behind closed doors"

Why would a couple divorce after 40 years of marriage? Why not just stick it out?

Sadly, there must be more to the story.

My prayers are with Al and Tipper Gore that they will maintain their friendship as they figure out what caused them to go in completely different direction and find a way to work it out.

Marriage is sacred and takes lots of work to keep it fresh and exciting, it takes both partners to encourage each other to maintain honesty and respect for each other, realizing that none of you are perfect and love, respect and forgiveness will always be needed on both sides if you are to move forward together.

I thank God for my 33yrs of wedded bliss and take nothing for granted, I pray for all of those who are married that they will shut out the noise of the world and figure out what is important to make their marriage work and make the drastic steps to protect their investment in the marriage.

May God bless all those who are still married and those who are working through the difficult stuff.

Peace and Love.

You really need to get married, and be married for at least five years before you can understand the kind of hot, unbridled lust that ultimately drove the Gores apart.

These pictures say it all. They just flew too close to the sun.

I hope that a third party is not involved. I'm getting sick and tired of men risking their marriages for women who would never look at them if it weren't for their money and power. I hope there's no scandal and that they can move forward in peace.

Actually, I'm thinking that Tipper outgrew Al - she is an attractive and bright woman. Al is sort of a...nincompoop.

Yeah, I had a moment where I thought I would be so disappointed if the next development was Al Gore with some sweet young version of Tipper on his arm.

How novel...splitting up before a scandal. That's refreshing....

It doesn't matter that their kids are grown, it still hurts to see your parents separate....many years ago, (when I was almost 40 yrs old) my parents separated at ages 64 & 65......this just devastated me & all of my siblings...my parents (both now deceased & died 1 year apart of each other) did the right thing in separating. I now know that in hind sight!...They both enjoyed many years of happiness apart! They were not happy together for many years & I now know it was very selfish of me to want them to stay together to make me "happy"
