Mark Sanford: Nikki Haley Affair Allegations Just Politics As Usual

Mark Sanford

(AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says an allegation against a Republican gubernatorial candidate by a Columbia blogger who also was his first press secretary is an evil brand of politics as usual.

Sanford said Tuesday he doesn't believe blogger Will Folks' claim that he had an inappropriate physical relationship with Nikki Haley.

Sanford, who saw his political prospects destroyed after disappearing for days last year and admitting to an affair with an Argentine woman, says it's the silly season in politics with primaries next Tuesday.

The governor wouldn't say whom he thinks is behind the allegations.

Haley has denied any inappropriate relationship with Folks.

The Republican gubernatorial candidates debate in Florence at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

If it's politics as usual, is Sanford substantiating the allegations? Politics as usual per the Governor of South Carolina is leaving the State ungoverned so that he can use public money to fly to another country in order to cheat on the mother of his children that he swore an oath before God to never betray. Politics as usual in South Carolina sounds like guilty as charged.

So, Mark Sanford hired this Folks guy at one time but now he's nothing more than a liar?

I don't buy that. I believe Folks. Sanford has lied to me already, why should I believe him?

Maybe he thinks that if she were likely to have an affair, he would have been the first to know.

A Real Republican - not a Right Wingnut

I am a Liberal Republican and find it interesting that the conservative family values guys that are unfaithful stay in office, but Elliot Spitzer resigned. As a Republican that values intellect and hard work, I find that disturbing. Because if you listen to Elliot Spitzer and his polices, you have to think this guy has some very good ideas. I am hopeful that he can revitalize his political career.

I find the hypocrisy of the right wing very frustrating. That is one reason I am so strongly for increased education - because if you get educated, you will learn to see patterns....

I agree. Spitzer was great in New York; he would have been good for the country. He made a mistake, bravely resigned, and hopefully will have a comeback. Mark Sanford and his ilk who chose to stay in office are pathetic.

Sandford is at the end of his political rope; Spitzer is artfully macrameing a new one.
